I got alot of work done on my modern estate map today. The map still has a ways to go, but I'm ready to start testing it. Deluxe I used an air hockey table prefab from Tomtehtom and a record player and piano prefab from RPGALLAGHER on the map. I hope to get more work done on it later this week.
The people who say they cant see anything on Oblivion are the same ones who said they didn't have depth perception when we used metal in h2a ahahahaha
Halo should let you adjust the blacks on your tv like any other game you first start up. Or it does ask you and I look totally stupid right now...
Nah man I was fine on metal maps, they usually had bright skyboxes and or were completely lit up. Same deal with Reach maps that used the Purple FX. I can comfortably say it's just Oblivion.
I agree with the depth perception on oblivion. Dark lighting, somewhat monotone palette, and wall and floor being similar textures contribute to why it's an issue. Instead of being defensive about the criticism, you should consider why people feel that way.
The walls and floors aren't even close to the same textures so I'm gonna go ahead and assume you're just pulling things out of your ass like you usually do. The last post about the metal was a joke by the way.
I'm interested to see how he manages to break the 3 lane system even though it's been in every map since Black Ops 1 and it's all competitive players want.
I'm stupidly open to criticisms and ideas. Since I was hired several months ago I've made it a point to talk to as many cod players and zombieheads as I can, any chance I get. That being said, I know stupid criticism when I see it. That doesn't make me stubborn, but there's a lot of bad opinions that a few people here like to be very vocal about. Forgive me if I don't trust the opinions of the guy who got us Hangar, Hazard, and Malta in matchmaking (And was pushing for orxygens). I'm not making 3 lanes, ever. And I'll handle criticism the same way I have here; ignore the stupid **** and take what I need. When I do lighting for maps I specifically plug my Xbox into a BenQ monitor, remove all post processing, and change the Xbox color output to pc rgb. It's literally as accurate as the colors will ever be and Oblivion looks more than bright enough. Legion is dark yeah. You might have blown out contrast settings on your tv if you're actually having trouble seeing.
Someone show me a map with better lighting than Oblivion (chromabox lighting) seriously I'd love to see it. Inb4 "any map where I can see hurp durp" No really though, I wanna see maps with good lighting techniques. Show me, because it seems like no one has given an effort to even try decent lighting in this game except Goat.
Its not that there is lack of effort, it's that there is a lack of control. Sure there are a lot of settings but the lighting often still does it's own thing in the end. I've spent more time on lighting than anything else on my maps, I know that doesn't say much especially since I haven't officially released a map, let alone made something that is worthy of mention, but that doesn't change ridiculous amount of effort put forth. When given the choice between simplifying lighting or simplifying aesthetics, I think most give up on lighting and switch to aesthetics. Lighting is a ***** in the first place, but without the proper tools it can be a real ****.
I should really force you to get on to see it. But...skip to the 47 minute mark and you can see the playtest @Ascend Hyperion did on it last week. Gallows is played right after it if you're interested in seeing that one too. I've been redoing the aesthetics on Gallows though, and might possibly adjusting scaling, so it won't be releasing anytime too soon. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/129165717
