    Hello forgers! First post here!

I found myself downloading and organizing maps for a LAN party a couple of months back. We wanted to play some Halo on xbox360.
I wanted to have all the maps we ever enjoyed on my own xbox so I started collecting. It was pretty easy job, thanks to the fact that Halo3 and Halo Reach file-share still works ingame. Not so much for the desktop browser, however.
Halo Waypoint file-share got abandoned a while back. https://haloreachstats.halowaypoint.com/es-es/games/haloreach/filebrowser?gametitle=haloreach

So, this got me thinking. What will happen when they shutdown servers for Halo 3 and Reach?
All those awesome maps will be gone
until someone collects them from their xbox Hard Drive and uploads them to the internet. All that if we are lucky enough...
I might upload my personal collection to mega or something.

What about Halo 5? I didn't play it yet, but I've been told the maps/game variants are saved serverside. No way of collecting them if the servers are gone.
It's not the end of the world if one game it's abandoned or dead after 7+ years from release. Furthermore when It's a multiplayer game. Most ForgeHub maps are useless without competitive players (Pls aesthetics guy dont be offended :)). But I feel it would be a shame if we don't have the variety of forgemaps we have today. I see myself in the future playing Halo3 on emulator. The same way others are still playing Halo Custom Edition. Wait, are they still playing Halo CE?

Ya know, this is an interesting point. I didn't even think about how my maps aren't actually downloaded to my drive. (Thank God though cause this game would be even more of a memory hog than it already is)

I think it's unlikely 343 would effectively just erase all the H5 forge content but the sad truth is without servers and without splitscreen, the maps would have nobody to play them.

On a brighter note though, I'm sure this is nothing to worry about. Customs is a far too integral part of Halo and 343 would have to be batshit crazy to jeopardize that.

(Isn't 360 getting shut down this year?)

Well... you can still play on LAN Multiplayer on xbox360. Not sure about H5. I just google it and I think it has not :(.
Holy ****, I just realized. That's as bad as no splitscreen!

Oh, it's already announced? Welp. :/

Being an old school gamer, I'll never be happy with this situation, even though I have no control over it and I don't expect it to change. A big part of my early gaming days consisted of congregating with friends, and being able to play each others games. I treated my discs, cartridges, floppy's, etc. like they were gold. I still have perfectly functioning games and systems that are 30 years old. I keep them because I know I can still bring them with me when I get together with friends, and we can sit down and play them together just like we did so many years ago.

I don't know...on one hand, online gaming is something I wouldn't want to lose. On the other hand, I despise the fact that this game only exists in 'the cloud', and that someone could literally block my access to it today, despite the fact that I've paid for the game. Like...how ridiculous is it that we don't even own our games on this system. We just own the right to access them, and that right can be removed at any time. I still get super bummed out every time I realize that I can't play the games I want to side by side with my friends.

I do exactly the same. I'll never sell my old consoles beacuse of the replayability value. And because I love to show my old toys to people who never heard of them before. Have a blast with young generations (ma cousins :3), players and non-players alike.
I wish all modern videogames had an offline mode so I could still play -at least parts of it- in the future. It's like if an old movie had the risk of Warner closing servers. Why would I buy movies then?

On the bright side, piracy can make almost anything an offline experience. And if the game has no PvE (like Overwatch), I bet there's a modded "training room" of some sorts just to play solo.
So, even if they "block" us from games because pvp, I hope piracy and modders can bring solutions to the table.

I imagine playing Halo 5 in 2036 will be as easy as I play Smash Bros Melee online today. Have 2 computers, have a friend, install dolphin, config per to per match, profit :surprise:.
Aaand back to original post. What will happen to forgemaps? Those will be lost forever. Piracy and preservation depends on popularity.

regardless of a lack of players, sometimes you just want to load up something you made years ago, and take a look around and get nostalgic a bout your own hard work and remember how satisfied you were in your accomplishments.

It's too bad that the way things are done now may prohibit you from doing so... :(

Ya'll have Reminiscent by Mini Waz? It's an H3 competitive map that was in the Bungie vs the World playlist, I think it's in Team Slayer too.
