Good question. The mechanic was ripped from Elder, Quake Live if you've ever played it. The key serves as a pseudo power weapon where whoever picks it up can traverse the map more quickly than any other player. Several doors will open and then close behind him. Keyholder gets 10 uses on the doors before the key breaks, the 11th use will teleport him to a dead end and the key resets. Killing the keyholder also resets the key, which will move between 3 set locations just like the bomb in this game. Just think of the key as a non traditional power weapon it all works with default team slayer

You know, the maps that have to be built around a natural lighting source and use framing properly. Come above ground with us mortals!
