Forge is a funny thing. Everyone has been working with limitations for the longest time. Every iteration or update cycle, something new shows up and somebody wants to be the first to do something cool - to make everyone go "whoa, how did you do that in Forge?" This is good for competition once in a while, but sometimes it goes too far and people let it get to their heads. Halo 5 right now is at a point where we have squeezed virtually everything out of the engine that isn't related to scripting. Pretty soon, Forge will reach a level where it wont matter who did what first, but rather how good they did it. I think jealously will quickly become obsolete at that point because you'll be able to build whatever whenever.
The less forge becomes focused on "forge skill" and more so raw level design and generalized art skill, the better we'll be off.
One cannot argue that becoming a cc is viewed as a promotion amongst peers. The problem is you cannot displace a cc even when they walk away from forging. Godly told me to "move on" from forging as though it were a sign of maturity to do so while retaining his cc status. And now he moved back. Why couldn't others with uninterrupted passion take his role? I won't ask why they still exist, that is for another day.
I don't quite understand why you would want to be a community cartographer, I love helping people but the role of cartographer always struck me as "working for free". I do feel like it shouldn't be a permanent role though, because like you said not everyone retains passion. I mean Nokeyard has reviewed like 30+ courts which is insane to me, helping others is one thing but man to put yourself through that requires so much damn passion, and drive, and even with passion it can't be very fun reviewing such a large amount. I do have to thank the cartographers that do fill the role, I just don't see the appeal.
the only perk of being a CC is "insider info" and the off chance 343 invites you to the studio. otherwise you are drafted to lobbies and tasked with sifting through community content - a tall order for anyone with a day job and a less than enthusiastic interest in Halo
I probably shouldn't say anything, but it seems to me like the CC system must be defunct. I haven't heard any mention of CC tasks in many moons. Relevant to this thread...I'd gladly take the CC system over what we seem to have currently. The meager amount of forge content in matchmaking is disgraceful consider how large a leap forward forge is in this game compared to previous games. It makes no sense at all that there's only 1 community built 4v4 core forge map (Congrats @Chronmeister) in matchmaking, and I don't get the sense that it's going to change. How does it make sense to support the development of forge, but not utilize the content in matchmaking? Whatever the process is for getting community made maps into matchmaking now, it friggin' sucks, and needs to be re-thought.
Seriously, I feel like they don't read the submission thread, even a kind "sorry we are not interested here are some tips" would be amazing. There is no excuse for action sack to have the small amount of games it has for what's available, I think in the future they should consider hiring paid CC's since I believe they are very important for the longevity of the game, I mean would any of you even play Halo 5 if forge didn't exist?
Why do those CC's like being CC's and would never resign willingly? --- Double Post Merged, Jan 17, 2017 --- Ask them why they would never resign? Ask them what the number one draw is. If they are honest they will tell you it strokes their ego like nothing else can. You know this... why would you say the other things for? They are random maybes. Having people say, he's one of the CC is the draw. The word I am looking for is prestigious.
It's Halo 5. Nobody cares about the CCs beyond the things I just mentioned. Maybe back in the day it was more "prestigious" when Forge maps went into Matchmaking and you had to kiss up to one to get your map in, but not anymore.
As far as I'm concerned, the custom content community is doing 343 a favor. CCs have to bend to their will and unpredictable schedules and I don't envy them one bit. Any CCs who want to use the position as leverage against other people in the community are missing the point.
Listen to you. If they have it so bad, then why hasn't any quit? Your view doesn't line up with observation.
You wouldn't quit an exclusive position, especially if you didn't even have to do anything. I'm not saying they have it bad. I'm saying nobody cares about being a CC anymore but former ones and the people who still bring them up, which is odd because it's not even a thing anymore.
Okay so it's not bad but it's not a thing either. You said it. It's exclusive. That is another way of saying, look at me, I'm special. Going back to what I originally said, it is an ego stroker. If it were a nothing I would expect at least a couple of CC's say so, quit, and move on. The fact that none would shows it is more than something. It is a powerful ego stroker. We can keep going around in circles here but what you are saying is just denial of how powerful of an elitist feeling the cc offer people. And my very original comment was this is a form of social promotion. If you honestly wouldn't want a CC position then you may not grasp what it means to those who covet the role.
It doesn't mean anything because the CCs no longer exist and all the "ego strokers" don't even Forge anymore. What are we talking about again?
