Saw this on another forum and figured this was a good idea. Just post screenshots of your maps, scenes and concepts that you never finished for one reason or another. Here's a few of mine: This was meant to be a 2v2 (maybe 4v4) core map. Ship was mostly inspired by Sik's pirate ship. Figured I'd combine that with neat looking icebergs and whatnot. Layout is shite though. This is an abandoned Grifball court. I couldn't get the lava to look nice while still at a large scale so I scrapped the idea. Used the chains my latest map though. Another 2v2 core map based on some random image I found on Reddit. The house looks neat and that's about it. It runs like ****, plays like ****, and is pretty ****.
This was part of a graveyard I was working on. Got the majority of it done and got bored trying to think up a central area. This was my attempt at making a farmhouse for an old school zombie themed infection map. Once I got the house finished I just didn't have the drive to make a barn and finish the outlying areas.
I probably secretly have more projects between halo 4 and h2a than anyone else here, and the only person I ever showed them to was de_chunk.
I'll call it a draw between you and Salty. I'm on the other end of the spectrum, lol. I have this map that I've ditched in H5. There was one other that I mostly completed a blockout for, and then deleted because it sucked. In H2A, I think I only had 1 map that I didn't release. I can usually tell whether or not I'm going to be happy with a map really early on in the process, so I don't end up with many abandoned projects. It's also why I end up revisiting so many of my designs. Once I've found a core design that I really like, I just keep iterating on it until I get it to a place I'm happy with. Also, why do I not have a map named de_chunk yet? I'm totally gonna use that.
I don't think I have any screenshots, but when Halo 5 forge first came out I briefly worked on a map I entitled "Ghost Bowling". All players but one would spawn on a narrow platform. The 1 that didn't spawn on the platform would end up at the top of a large ramp with a ghost. The player at the top would then fly down the ramp and attempt to kill the players on the platform. The mini game was heavily inspired by speed Halo, but didn't work for a number of reasons. Infection wasn't out at the time so there wasn't really a good way to incorporate team switching without use of the honor rule. I also didn't really understand the forge mechanics well at the time resulting in the map being a eye sore, and barely functional. I'm not saying I'm much better now I'm still a fairly new forger, but at least I understand the core mechanics.
Let alone finish a map; I will never start a map. I have a huge issue with initial inspiration for my maps, so when I go in, I hit the ground running face first. One day...
I'm not sure some of you understand the point of this thread lol. When I get xbl again I'll post pictures of mine. I have about 50.
There needs to be some kind of system in place that prevents Yevah and Yekkou from posting consecutively, or responding to each other. My tiny brain can't handle it. I just read a post from Yevah, and then I see Chronmeister quoting Yekkou, and this is what happens to me...
I don't know, most of the ones that were ready didn't really feel right. So I didn't post them! haha, I might revisit some of them, but when I think about the effort I'll have to put in to make it the way I want it, I give up.
Unfinished stuff for the win: Alchemy - A doubles map in an ancient chamber where creatures conjure up mysterious black arts Backburner while I conjure up a layout Ashlands - Inverse sym in a volcanic cavern Scrapped it 3 times but currently giving it a layout and visual overhaul Blade Runner - 2v2 map in a city illuminated by neon lights Currently going through a layout and lighting overhaul It will hopefully look like this when it's done Crash Cove - I never Forged it but I did a concept piece Moondust - An updated design from Halo 4 Might throw the art on a different layout though because framerate Ringworm - A disorienting 2v2 map based around a crashed space ship on a hostile alien planet Framerate actually ruined my ship more than the crash did, so it needs a redesign and repositioning Wanderlust - A map set in library that has been buried in the Desert. Backburner till I figure out how to fix Epitaph There's more but eh. These are the ones I'm thinking about right now.
This guy was one of my first maps to abandon. "Rust" was going to be an Infection map. If I had finished it would have made Drillsite look like total garbage. May revisit this concept someday.. Another scrapped Infection map, "Muck". Was going to be a companion piece to my map Cesspool. The swamps that the sewers drain into. Didn't feel there was enough foliage options at the time to do it justice.
