Take this as a staff review, although I wasn't staff for long and the real reason I left was at no fault other than my own. As a staff member on Forgehub the biggest problem I faced is that I was required to respond to messages that got quickly buried in a huge feed of messages in the staff chat. Wouldn't even be that bad if it was just one chat feed, but last time I was in them, they were incredibly decentralized. Some users used Discord, others used Skype. And the WAYWO chat notifications were so constant you have no option other than turning them off. So War or, formerly CHUNK, would put a message the staff chat with any requests, such as any writing jobs or work requests.

As a staff on FH you'll need to remain active and in good standing by responding to these messages that are posted to the message feed. You'll find those message you're accountable for responding to are buried within a few hours. So unless a potential staff member enjoys religiously checking both the message boards on Discord and Skype you can quickly find yourself back out the door you just entered.

Just wanted to provide info about my obstacles as staff to anyone who might seriously be considering applying for staff.

Yes. Being on staff requires time. I would hope everyone knows and understands that going into it. I always looked at it as a responsibility/opportunity to serve the community. Obviously people have other things going on in their lives, and that's good and understandable, but yes it requires time, attention, and effort to be on staff.

You very accurately described the communication situation. Things have improved immensely since then. There's still a lot of conversation happening, but the Admins have greatly improved the organization to make it a bit easier for each person to follow conversations that pertain to them. The time when you were on staff was somewhat of a transition period. Things are more settled and better structured now.

I'm just curious, what's the main objective after one is signed up. What tasks are presented?

We fixed a lot of the communication issues, by implementing some better systems and optimizations, in terms of articles and front page art. Messages are still important to catch up on, but we have better ways to immediately catch up.
However, I will agree that time is necessary to maintain this position. For me, at least, it takes a good 4-5 hours to finish a map feature, however I pour over every word about 2 or 3 times because I'm crazy. So time is necessary.

So, if communication is that important who's fault is it that the link from the Halo-ween submission thread takes you to the Hub of the dead?

Edit: After looking back on this I realize I might have poked a bit too much fun at the Forgehub staff. I've had the pleasure of working and talking with many of them and it's been great (so far). The way they all run this site is fantastically put together, and I'm just trying to make sure that isn't overlooked by my snarkiness.

I don't get excited for anything less than a 6 figure salary.

I would have applied a few years ago if the opportunity was available, but now I'm way too busy.

I'm 16, got a Discord but can't get a Skype at the moment. The most I can voice-chat on would be Xbox Live. But I do like writing, and I'm the Associate Editor of my school paper, also got the award of excellence for Journalism for 2016, so I think I might be not so bad at articles. xD

Is forge hub evolving into a news paper? Why would a forging community want several articles a week? I would think you want several new maps a day...

For how many times I've heard you complain about different sites being toxic, you sure do make a lot of passive aggressive comments...

I would apply for staff but I'm not known or anything. Still new to the forging community maybe some day when I'm feeling more in-the-know I'll try applying as staff.
