What would the Forge Community like to see the most from the next installment of Halo's infamous Forge System??? There are a lot of technical advances being made and rumors are going around about what will be changed/added to the next version of Forge; so let's settle on what we Forgers feel is the most important next time around! This is also for the developers to consider if they ever see this poll They might hopefully be swayed if there are some good suggestions posted! Please be respectful and realistic when voting You get -one vote- so read all the choices before making a selection. Thanks, Happy Forging!!
Even though I'm in it mostly for the scripting, I chose "Additional Game Mode Support". That would include scripting access to game events like scoring, etc. If the devs end up reading this, I recommend one teeny tiny suggestion: do the stuff on @TurbTastic 's list of missing stuff. If he has other suggestions somewhere, I'm inclined to suggest doing his top choices. Better yet, get the input of a small group of the most inventive Forgers and see what they need to really let loose with Forge. @GreyMuffinBass I saw "object scaling" a bunch of times in other threads so I'd add that unless it doesn't qualify for this idea. Seen "mirroring" too, so maybe a general "Object Transformation" feature (like we have in paint programs) would make sense. Edit: Here's TurbTastic's list: http://www.forgehub.com/threads/missing-features-problems-with-custom-games-forge.152154/
Unfortunately, Polls can't be altered once they're up.. but I left ideas like that for the "Other" section! (which might even get the most votes in retrospect. But I hope this poll helps regardless!) I really like those ideas too, but the options I chose were in high demand already, so it's like a thumb war between each category to see which one is the most requested. Thanks for your feedback! It is appreciated.
How about more textures and overlays? Tom French already said that it's technically limited in this game and he wants to improve it in Halo 6.
Terrain building. I want to be able to sculpt my own map. No more jigsawing together premade pieces of land. If anyone played Project Spark while it was still out, the terrain editor in there was perfect.
Definitely need the games modes. Doesn't matter how good the forge is, if the games customability is lacking, it's all for naught.
More simple primitives and better optimization. That's all I guess. I've just about given up on the rest of the stuff we need. Then again, I don't really forge anymore, so it doesn't matter a whole lot to me.
TBH the only thing holding back the current iteration of forge is the lack of gametypes. In order to fully utilize forge we need to be able to make more maps that could be played in the social atmosphere. So far I have had zero issues staying under the 1600 budget--especially when you get framerate problems long before then. They increased it to please us even when they knew it would cause problems if we went too far over. In my opinion increasing the budget isn't an issue unless the engine could support it without performance drops.
Now that I think of it, I think better atmospheric control would be nice. Having a wider array of filters and options to modify the brightness of the map would be great.
So gamodes is winning. But isn't that more of a general Halo issue. Everybody wants it obviously but forge doesn't lack gamemodes more than the game itself. Or am I missing something?
People were quite happy with Reach's Game Mode Support for both MM and Forge. They didn't have the same issue as today, but that's the company's experiment. I'm sure they left out the game modes to create some kind of anticipation, but they didn't do it fast enough because many of the track builders are gone. (If they just brought some new game mode support to the darn game, we forgers would be the happiest campers! ) Halo 5 forge brought so MUCH to the table, but swept racers off of it. It's sad, but it can be saved. I hope they add them quick..
You're right. It's still a legit choice though, I think. Some modes will require new objects and maybe scripting support. Game settings definitely have a profound effect on what Forgers end up doing and the current limitations are really in the way of progress of Forge so it seems natural to add it to a request list, even if it's not technically included in Forge. Actually, it might be worth requesting that they add game settings to Forge in the first place.
All I want (in the realm of reality) is for a clipping of hidden textures option. This would essentially delete any parts of objects that are inside of another object. It is completely possible, and would hammer the final nail in the coffin that is frame-rate. Think of it is a "flatten image" option for forge maps. Not to mention this would allow us to create our own objects through pre existing ones. (Prefabs that are only one piece)
This gets me 4chubbed out just thinking about it. We wouldn't even need any more pieces with the ability to literally create whatever we want In the same regard, people would create sooooooo many different kind of dicks
