Detailed Matchmaking guide

    Hello everyone,

    I've decided to create a document for getting maps ready for matchmaking standards, along with other helpful hints. The main reason why I have created this is because there are certain requirements in place for matchmaking consideration. This handy guideline document will give you all the info you need to get your map ready for matchmaking. If your objective is to have thousands playing on your map, this list is here to help get you started.
    If you don't really care about creating a map for match making I have included a small list for the weapon pad glitch towards the bottom of the document.

    A few things that you will find in this guide:


    Also, please keep in mind that this will receive new content along with updates to reflect HCS/Matchmaking changes.

      I agree. I should have been more specific and said that maps should have as many spawn points as there are safe areas for place them. Of course given the nature of how the spawn engine selects spawn points, having some in seemingly less "safe" areas may also work out fine, but for the most part, the design and geometry of a map does limit just how many spawn points can be reasonably placed.

      Very good write-up Cliff. The pictures are quite helpful and well distributed. I can't say that I agree with everything 343 requires but I know that the point of this isn't to create discussion, so I'll only comment on what I think that the post could benefit from.

      1. Infection requirements
      2. Prefab cameras, spawn sets, etc for easy use
      3. Replace document with thread using spoiler drop down tabs

      Otherwise, I feel a lot of people could benefit from making a habit out of a lot of these requirements and it'd make it much easier for the cartographers.

      However multiple sites are hosting the document and it's easier to update the document instead of updating multiple sites.

      Thank you so much for this. Even though i knew most of the information on here, there was small important details that really tied everything together. i really appreciate the work you put in to this. it already helped me in my latest map Collide scope and i hope it helps others too.

      Dont know if anyone has done this yet, but I made some prefabs based on this document if people need wanted to get the preformatted stuff. I have spawns, objectives, and Cams/animations stuff. Ill be adding the weapon stuff at some point soon

      i did the same exact thing as soon as i seen this post. i placed everything needed to build a map
