    • Everyone is using a different personal scale with ambigious parameters and arbitrary guidelines.
    • The map's rating depends on how many people bother to rate it in the first place
    • People are discouraged to rate maps that would receive low ratings so it's biased towards "good or great" maps to begin with
    • Can't even edit reviews once they've been posted
    • It implies that a map has no potential for growth or change
    • It's a thread end game wheras older systems or other sites simply rely on likes (or dislikes) and comments
It's a flawed, frivolous and frankly unnecessary system that serves absolutely no purpose for anyone who actually participates on the website. It's literally only there for people who come here to glance the map forum by looking at the pictures until something catches their eye.

I'm not saying I entirely disagree with you, but there are over 3600 maps in there. Casuals make up the bulk of the fan base, and they need a simple way to sift.

Frankly don't think there should be a way to sift

The map section has many positives as well, one of the biggest being that it doesn't clutter up the actual forum. Anyone who was active on this site back in Halo 3 knows how much garbage got posted on a daily basis. People would make threads with absolutely no pictures and no information other than the name of their map and their gamertag. The map section almost guarantees a decent map post even if the map itself is fairly poor. The great thing about the current system is that the casuals can sift through the map section to find our content while the more experienced and active members can find content quicker through posts on the forum. You wouldn't have that otherwise.

I 100% agree that the rating system on the map section could be improved, but anyone who thinks maps should only be in threads on the forum did not experience this place when it was ridiculously bad.

I personally don't really care one way or another about the rating system. I don't use it, and I don't pay any attention to ratings. I sometimes read through the reviews, but don't put much stock in the number ratings. I don't really like the idea of modifying the rating system either. If you make it any more complicated than it is right now, people just won't use it. The people that care about it can use it in its current form. Everyone else can ignore it. Problem solved. ;)

The only thing I really dislike about the map section is the lack of discussion. I know at one point that comments made on map posts were mirrored into a forum thread (this map forum wasn't visible to members). The problem is that there was a disconnect between the map post and the forum thread, so you could see the name of the map and any comments, but you couldn't see the images, map description, download link, updates, etc. It would be amazing if the Maps section could be fused into a forum format. It doesn't really work that way though. Imo, there are more positives on the side of the current format than there are on the alternative, but it's a close call for me.

There are like 2 people who actually rate maps. That's not enough to even get vaguely accurate ratings.

I have a different experience then. I absolutely loved the way things were formatted back in H3/Reach. Sure, there were garbage posts, but that wasted maybe 2 seconds of your time? Click the back button. You could tell the maps that were getting a lot of momentum from the amount of comments and views, but actually had to click the thread to get more info. Something you might have not done had you just glanced at a picture and judged it right from the start.

"Eh, this map doesn't look nice from this one picture and there's no rating. Pass."

Along with that, even the garbage posts seemed to benefit the community. You'd pop in and see no pictures, there was always someone coming in and welcoming the poster to the site and directing them on how to set up a post. I had some trash maps, but since people were more willing to click a title in a thread than a picture in a list, I got a lot of feedback.

Just rambling now I think haha but I don't think a blanket statement is fair for everyone's opinion.

TL;DR I liked the thread system.
