    The Big Team Battle Community Refresh is now live! With twelve updated maps and the addition of four brand new maps, this refresh is the largest update to a playlist in Halo 5 to date. Before we dive into each map, we’d like to provide a quick glimpse at how this update came to be.

    In order to pull off such a large task, we coordinated with two incredible parts of the Halo community - the Forge experts, and the diehard Big Team Battle players. These communities worked tirelessly to consistently host custom game lobbies in order to make sure each map was thoroughly tested. Specifically, we'd like to thank HaloCustoms, Creative Force, BigTeamBattle.net, and ForgeHub for helping us organize the test lobbies, which allow us to communicate feedback directly to the map creators. Members of our Community and Multiplayer Teams often attend many of these playlists, and also provide feedback that the creators can use to update their map and get it ready for matchmaking. The feedback provided in these online playtests would help bring all of the maps to the point where they were ready to be looked at internally.

    After pulling the new and refreshed maps internally, the Multiplayer Team is able to take a closer look at them and contribute even more input on layout, aesthetics, and the overall flow of the gameplay. At this point, the process becomes a very quick back-and-forth as the Forgers look to make the last few changes needed on their maps, such as improving player containment, quality intro and outro cameras, as well as fixing up name location placement. Then, after all of this is complete, the MP Team verifies the fixes and deems the maps ready for matchmaking. Ship it!

    As mentioned earlier, we did not let these new maps enter matchmaking without giving the exisiting ones some love as well. That said, every existing map in the Big Team Battle playlist has not only received upgraded aesthetics, but also improvements to its gameplay. Here's a small glimpse at what you can expect from the twelve refreshed maps!

    You will be able to find all of these under the Featured section of the Halo 5 Content Browser, as well as bookmarked on our The343Favorites account. If you'd like to submit you're own maps for consideration in future playlist updates, you may do so in the Community Creations Forum here on Waypoint.

      Alright Ima throw in my personal opinion of each map in because it's been a while since I had a little read number popped up in my notifications box

      Dispelled: I'm not a big fan of this map, and I hated it during testing before it went in, however I gave it a chance when it came up in MM yesterday and- I didn't hate it as much. Idk, I'm still mulling it over

      Estuary: The rock placement still feels messy as hell, and I HATE the out of place green tidal grass, but I ended up having a lot of fun in slayer. I'm not an expert with spawns, but I didn't have too many issues- I think. Congrats Kyle.

      Traffic Jam: Haven't gotten it in MM yet, but got really sweaty on it in testing, and really enjoyed the some of the pathing. The random little death pits that can be found across the map in areas that look as though pieces should be there was an interesting and creative decision.

      Unearthed: I actually had a lot of fun on Unearthed- once again, if I was getting bad spawns I wouldn't have really noticed because I suck in general.

      Altar: TBD

      Boulevard: Love the aesthetic update, I think this is one of the most solid maps in the playlist.

      Entombed: nope

      Deadlock: stop getting worse with every update.

      Basin: If youre gonna be bad, might as well go all the way

      Fracture: I'm so excited that the rocks aren't blue anymore. One of the few maps I get really sweaty on. I have fun with it, especially on CTF

      Guillotine: Yes. but wtf is up with the neon purple road block accents, get it together duck

      Scavenger: no, lazy 343 at it again with letting these dumplings slide into the playlist

      Recurve: no, sorry Squals but they'res just too much bad blood, I just hate the map for what it is at its core- it's layout is like a fractured traffic jam that has been unearthed whilst scavenging for some entombed idiot who was killed by way of guillotine.

      Eagle Square: I've never liked this map personally, I know some people enjoy CTF on here, but the geometry has always just felt very clunky and unorthadox to me, and I find the layout to be rather basic.

      Antifreeze: A map the seems to get a lot of controversy, but one I find however to be one of the more solid maps in the playlist, as it can play a mean CTF- sometimes a little too mean, but mean non the less. However, it does show up in the playlist a lot, probably because it plays all 3 gametypes. Imagine that guys, a map that plays every gametype in H5! all 3...

      Valhalla: This update made it better, what with the extra cover and some of the exaggerated rock cover, however this is the map that should have been forced to change to tidal terrain, not Better Basin *cough* I mean Echoes. Not only does tidal terrain look more Valhalla, but you could properly do the river bed due to Tidal's nifty sand texture trick. I also think this should be moved to the Tidal canvas entirely, to give beach side an actual beach, and to have a much nicer looking sky, as the current sky has extremely awkward clouds that follow your recital around if you look up at them, at the very least turn the near fog scale down to 10-30 range, lower the thickness and bring up the brightness, most likely with the soft pattern should do.

      I only made cosmetic and containment changes, plus beefed up the vehicles to Woodland/Sword variants. Not sure who added the Wasp, and changed the spawns to Dynamic, but it wasn't me.

      As someone who believed that was the best BTB map in H5 prior, I think I speak for all of us when I say,
      The map looks awful. It is so over-the-top.
      That sounds harsh, but the map needs a complete overhaul.
      I would actually love to dress the map up, and tweak a few things, I think it could be the best one again.

      With the tidal trick you possibly could make it more of desert (granted the origional was a savannah)

      On a side note, I would like to point out that the majority of the Forerunner BTB maps are based on traditional Forerunner aesthetics.

      Maybe 343 should take notice of that

      Yeah, and that's not an attack on you Nok, the map has just felt as if it's gone down in quality since its original version, plus the removal of the enhanced filter is missed, considering that and the sunset sky box were the only things that made it stand out visually from being 'just another alpine map'

      Feedback so far:

      We do not need stronger ghosts than the default ones. Also, If we have one or two maps leaning towards Heavies so be it, but please no more.

      Entombed looks like it recently came out of a butthole. Too much texture on top of too much texture on top of green and brown. Oh and it's shiny too! Also, I'm actually into the idea of this being a ruin because the map has always looked like a pile of blocks, but--now that it is actually a pile of blocks--the railings and bars and support struts really, really look out of place. I like the use of sand vs grass. i don't actually hate playing this map. You're welcome.

      Deadlock has airplanes. I have cancer.

      Viking is fine. Not a fan of all the vehicles (gauss hogs + wraiths) or the rocket turrets. Should have replaced Basin.

      Antifreeze is dark and grey. The lighting makes orientation harder. I'd like if the light bars/shield generators were more chromatic and if each teams bridge was tinged the team color. Right now one side is light blue and the other is light tan. I'd prefer if it was blatantly red and blue. I also enjoyed the opening rush for camo more when it was on the catwalk, but nbd. Not a fan of strongholds on this map.

      Guillotine has a plasma caster at rocket spawn and I strangely don't hate it. Though I am not a fan of the saw at snipe. But whatever, still a top map in the playlist.

      Fracture is enjoyable. Rocket hogs was an interesting choice that I don't mind.

      Scavenger is all positive.

      Boulevard is all positive.

      Recurve is obviously improved but I sorta liked that gauss hog chilling bottom mid.

      Eagle Square is better, but I still mostly hate it and wouldn't be sad to see it go. If it's only in for flag and nothing else I guess i can tolerate it.

      Altar: haven't played it.

      Dispelled feels very large. I like the way it looks like CE but I think I'll get tired of the map soon. The spawns feel weird in this map. I often feel as though I'm facing the wrong direction when I spawn. I guess its nice to have scorpions in matchmaking? The map doesn't play in an especially unique way, which would warrant its inclusion.

      Estuary was fun and unique. It reminded me of the rocky Battlefront map in the Beta. I don't have a good sense of how the map flows and connects yet, but the engagements I had were great.

      Unearthed I played with friends and just continuously circled on a warthog roadtrip. I honestly can't give any critique because I was just goofing off. I imagine I'll get frustrated with this map eventually though.

      Traffic Jam: I'm starting to doubt this map actually exists.

      The cosmetic changes reflect how i feel about the game play changes which were not made by me. Originally, my long-term plan was to make subtle changes with each upgrade to dress up the Blue (UNSC) base, and make Red (Rebel) base look run down as if designed by the UNSC propaganda machine, but instead i pushed each to the extreme. I love the Forge/MM team to death but they keep trying to make Deadlock something it's not. It's supposed to be a playground for wheeled vehicle/infantry interaction.

      No, Please don't take what i said above as me being vengeful or spiteful. It means i didn't use my usual good judgement and restraint filters and built exactly what i believe they wanted based on my observations of the changes they made. I put myself in their shoes and tried to match their view of what the map should be.

      Also, some of the changes made were based on direct feedback. I don't know if i can post that list here since it was from a private chat.

      lol it may be a while. I'm only working on it when i feel like it. I'm done forcing myself to get stuff done according to deadlines
