Vorked submitted a new map: Data Pit - The Pit with a Data Hive/NMPD feel. Read more about this map...
Looks pretty clean, but bland. I think a marble on the lighter color walls would go a very long way for the aesthetics. Looks good so far though! Maybe the outside could be a simple landing zone for pelicans. Also don't have red stripes everywhere on the map, that will get you a lot of complaints for not knowing which side is which. Use a neutral color like an orange and put red and blue only at the bases.
Honestly, the second part of your suggestions were brought into mind, but I decided against it because I was copying another Halo location's style. That, and the original The Pit didn't have colored sections. That's what made me decide against that. When the rendering bug is fixed, I'll certainly light the map based on red and blue sides, but that's down the line. Also, thanks for the suggestion on texturing. I'll give that a try later on. I was wanting to go through and rip apart certain parts of the map to clean them up, but was waiting for the render hotfix.
Its been difficult to find a great PIT remake and this looks really promising! I'll put this one on my list to check out soon. Great work gentlemen.
Vork, I agree with learning the map and having named volume zones on it helps. The original Pit had the same complaints and was updated as Pit Stop which removed the attics spawns and added color indicators for the bases. It doesn't have to be obnoxious, just subtle light bars with the color over the base areas or something. I've played the map so many times it's not an issue for me, just general feedback from the orgininal and other color undefined remakes. On a side note, if you cut the Pit in half on a base side, it makes a perfect ffa warm up.
