Hello, I've been working on my first Forge Map, Colony, for about 2-3 months now. I've finished the layout of my map but I am now at the part of adding the design to my Map and also the the lighting. The problem is i'm not great at doing the design parts of the map nor the lighting. I've attempted both but I feel like the design is a bit, plane and similar throughout, and the lighting is blotchy. The reason I'm here is to ask if anyone minds lending me their spare time to help me out. If youre knowledgeable in the designs of maps and lighting, I would appreciate if you came and show me some tips on best way of making designs for maps and for how to do lighting. I'll make sure to credit you for the work you have done on my map in the description and on the forum post I make for my map. Thanks. -Impure
Here are a few images of the basic layout. There have been a few changes around the middle parts of the map. These images are also before I tried adding a design to the map and any lighting. Thanks for the reply.
the secret to doing good lighting in this game is this: if the map has a ceiling, build it under the cave on glacier or enclose it in chroma boxes. then turn light bake off of everything if the map doesn't have a ceiling but has walls, turn light bake off of objects that appear in shadows casted by objects above them next you will insert local lights into your map such as light fixtures where appropriate. if you're using a light piece that actually gives off light, you can use that to cast light on the map. if your light object is more for aesthetics, then use point or spot lights around the light source to create that lighting if you need to throw a point light into a room to brighten it up, pick something subdued so it's not overbearing light bake on any object that you want to be brighter and more correctly shaded. lighting is a powerful tool and it should be used to draw the player's eye to certain locations. if you have uniform lighting all over the map, whether it is bright or dark or one color, then players will have a hard time with target acquisiton, and it makes the map's presentation weak.
Sorry for the late reply, this is a top down view of my concept. Which shows the basic layout. Also, I know this model makes the layout look small but in Forge it is bigger and more spacious.
Ooh i like it, with some changes i think you'll have an interesting symetric map. Add me GT: SoldatDuChrist
im in the same boat finished an uploaded a map today but the lighting is awful and could use lighting help myself lol
