    ANNOUNCING ANVIL'S LEGACY

September is going to be a pretty busy – and very exciting – month for Halo fans, with some awesome new experiences heading your way on multiple fronts! From bringing the crazy creativity of Forge to Windows 10 PCs, to releasing more exciting new free content for Halo 5: Guardians on the Xbox One, to a brand new Windows 10 PC Halo app, Halo fans are going to have some shiny new toys to get their virtual hands on come September 8.

    FORGING AHEAD
    [IMG]

Back in May, we announced that Halo 5: Forge was coming to Windows 10 PCs. 343 Industries, alongside our friends at SkyBox Labs, are proud to help usher in a brand new era for our talented and creative community, bringing Halo 5: Guardians’ entire Forge level-creation experience to Windows 10 PCs, along with a host of awesome new features, including mouse and keyboard support, 4k resolution display capability, a brand new content browser that makes showcasing and sharing your creations easier than ever before, and the ability play your creations with friends online.

Host and play custom matches for up to 16 players on Windows 10, or share your games with the community for play in Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One. Whether you’re customize existing creations or inventing brand new ones, Halo 5: Forge on Windows 10 opens the floodgates to incredible new possibilities in Halo 5: Guardians and beyond.

    ANVIL’S LEGACY
Launching alongside Halo 5: Forge on Sep 8 will be the ninth, free content release for Halo 5: Guardians – Anvil’s Legacy, which includes some exciting new additions on several fronts, from new toys to play with – and new places to use them – to new ways to share and experience community creations.

    FORGE CONTENT BROWSER
The Anvil’s Legacy free content release brings easily one of the most eagerly-anticipated features to Halo 5: Guardians – a robust new Forge Content Browser. This incredible new tool allows players to search for, highlight, discover, share, and play their favorite Forge creations more easily than ever before.

The Halo 5: Guardians Forge Content Browser not only supports custom maps and game modes, but also the ability to share and discover brand new Forge Object Groups – a new feature designed to streamline the creative process by letting players save pre-fabricated object groups such as buildings, bases, and much more. With the new Forge Content Browser for Halo 5: Forge and Halo 5: Guardians, build and share your creations across both Windows 10 and Xbox One platforms for an all-access pass to a nearly infinite array of awesome new experiences.

    NEW ARENA AND WARZONE MAPS
Anvil’s Legacy also adds two new multiplayer maps to Halo 5: Guardians – both set on the Elite homeworld of Sanghelios: Mercy and Temple. Mercy is a beautiful new Arena multiplayer playspace that combines contested corridors with a mix of open sightlines. Temple is a brand new large-scale battleground built from the ground up with Warzone Assault in mind.

    NEW REQS
Anvil’s Legacy includes several new REQ for players to collect, including new weapons, attachments, weapon and armor skins, and more. Some fan favorite armors get a new coat of paint, and a new Magnum loadout lets Spartans pack a new powerful punch in a nice convenient package.

    THE HALO APP
Also launching on Sep 8 alongside Halo 5: Forge on Windows 10 PC will be the brand new Halo app, which lets you quickly and easily find, download, and launch Halo games available on Windows PCs, all while providing players with the latest news, videos, tutorials, featured community content, update notes, and more from across the entire Halo universe. We’ll have much more on the Halo app coming up very soon, so stay tuned!

No matter what flavor of Halo experience you enjoy, September will be a month to remember. From the launch of Halo 5: Forge on Windows 10 PC and the Anvil’s Legacy content release for Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One, to the next chapter in Halo esports with the Halo Championship Series’ new season and upcoming additions to the Halo universe with Halo Mythos and Halo: Fractures, there’s something for every Halo fan to look forward to. We'll have even more details to share later this week on HaloWaypoint.com in the Halo Community Update – we can't wait to see you there!

New Arena map 'Mercy' is a remake of 'Haven' from Halo 4.

I'm probably looking forward to this update more than any we've had since forge launched. The prefab's are going to be awesome. I can't wait to see all the amazing objects that are sure to be published. I'm looking forward to prefab's just as much because it'll give us the ability to move maps. There have been so many times over the years that I've wished I could move a map to a different canvas. Now It'll be possible. :)

After this, the only other things I'd really like to see are more simple primitives (which I understand probably isn't going to happen), and the ability to add textures to all objects. Not being able to add them to the structure pieces (stairs in particular) is kind of a pain right now. Even without these additions, I'm still in love with H5 Forge. I honestly never expected it to be this much of an evolutionary leap, and I'm still blown away by it. If I ever have a son, his first name will be Tom, and his middle name will be French. ;)

Well, if 343 were to take any map from Halo 4, might as well be Haven. It may not be great, and very much on the bland generic side of designs, but it's pretty enjoyable. I honestly can't complain.

This was the best time to be on Forgehub. haha XD I can't wait for the update!
(Damn... all my forging time will be spent making prefabs now! which is a good thing)

I hope Forge on PC has re-bindable keys. That control setup looks pretty bad.

I would have preferred a bungie map remake, but in all honesty, if they were making any H4 map, this was the best bet.

I assume you're referring to the haven remake and not the whole update.

I have 2 maps that I put on hold because I didn't like the location and couldn't be bothered to start from scratch again. Not that either one was all that deep into the building process. That being said, one of the maps was pretty huge considering my typical map size.
It makes me sad how excited I've gotten for this Forge when it's still so far behind. I'm still hoping for upgrades that we saw way back in the console version of the Far Cry 2 editor. If somehow Forge could magically jump to what they have in Far Cry 4, could you imagine the stuff we could build.

I can't believe that in the Far Cry 4 you can just drop NPC's into that game and they will start dynamically interacting with the environment as well as each other. Imagine we had that in Halo. We could have a quick round of infection, just you VS 100+ infected, with no waiting for anyone else to join.

I was always so frustrated when an arena shooters didn't include bot play. Now It's been so few and far in between that I'm in shock when it's included. That's why I'm so happy to see PVE in Warzone. I just wish that they would toss enemy's (and UNSC for that matter) into Forge and have faith that we'll find amusing, if not good, ways to use them.

Hopefully there will come a day that Forgers will have the flexibility and resources to properly recreate entire levels from previous Halo's, with full NPC, PVE support.

All things considered, I'm happy for this update and the post game support 343 and specifically the Forge team has shown us. Thanks again Tom and crew.

I'm wonder if they went with Haven because its so simple that the H5 mechanics don't break it compared to a bungie map

I didn't like much from Halo 4 and Haven was okay to play but pretty boring to look at. Mercy kind of throws dirt in the face of all the players that say aesthetics don't matter.

With some recolouring and fog settings, Mercy could be easily mistaken for the Hive Aesthetic from destiny

I gotta admit, the Hunter claw cannon looks pretty cool. Radioactive crab style aside, of course.

I don't think I could agree with that. This aesthetic feels new and yet not too far off what we would expect. It's the Scifi lost in time feeling that Halo has that I love most. I hope the team working the campaign sees what's been done with Mercy.

Now if only I could get someone to make a game like the Galaxy Rangers

Aesthetics matter for selling games, not for playing them. Obviously I'm only speaking on my own behalf, but aesthetics add very little when it comes to playing the game. Contrast and landmarks are helpful from a gameplay standpoint, but beyond that I generally find them to be much more of an annoyance than a benefit.

Forgeworld proved that aesthetics aren't everything, but Mercy is a good example of how much they can affect the feel of what is essentially a simple little map. It also hits the mark for what Microsoft wanted done with Halo's competitive multiplayer, which was to make it more entertaining for spectators.

I think Torque is one of many good examples in Halo 5, of how not to design aesthetics. Here you had an amazing looking map but unfortunately all of the amazing was up and away from the map. That's cool and all, but if everything you look directly at looks the same as every other map, then really how much will players care after 5 minutes. Mercy has most of it's awesome right down there at eye level, and from what I've seen, it looks to do a good job at helping people understand where they are on the map.

The biggest difference between aesthetics and gameplay is that good gameplay can get by without good aesthetics but the opposite isn't true.

I did however notice this stupid tradition of color coding one side blue and one side red.
Please stop doing this 343. It only ruins your artistic vision for the map, and destroys my immersion level.
otherwise the map looks beautiful. It's Haven... but it's beautiful.
