If not now, when? And how? The only way to learn to accept it, is by being exposed to it. You need to understand that 1.) Everybody has different preferences/biases that will impact their opinion of your map. 2.) Most people share their opinions with constructive intentions. Just because something is brutally honest/rude/offensive, doesn't mean that you can't learn from it. Why do you forge? Do you enjoy the process? Do you enjoy playing your creations, and providing content for the community? If so, the negative opinion of some people shouldn't have such a large impact on you. Just keep doing what you enjoy doing. But, understand that by posting your creations to this site, you are making yourself vulnerable to some potentially blunt feedback.
Possibly never. I'm not in the mental condition to handle the scrutiny and I've already iterated that several times. I forge because I like building things. I build things on halo because I love halo. Honestly if I liked the sims better than I liked halo, I'd be on there building houses. And these things have a large impact on me because, like I said, I'm a sensitive person. I'm not sure why you keep mentioning feedback though, I don't believe this discussion was about my inability to receive feedback to begin with? I'm not positive why that part of me is even under scrutiny.
Yet another senseless post. It is better to encourage original designs and I agree with how it is a disservice to us original maps forgers out there. But people are entitled to make whatever they want, they get more attention then your maps then whatever. Whine about it all you like, it will never change no matter how much you rant about how remakes are stupid. So learn to say something useful, that is what constructive criticism is, not words that are stupid and don't deserve any attention.
Lol. Anyways. Now that I have 600 pieces, how could I make this better. The last feedback told me that the bottom (Garage) was never accessed because as it was much more convenient to stay up top in the halls. Would it work if I added some lower pathing? Like things that would move and attract players to come down from top to grab something below the road/courtyard that also provided safety at the same time? I feel like this map could be revisited now with the additional resources.
This They also show a total lack of creativity --- Double Post Merged, Aug 13, 2016 --- Dude... put my name on it when you say that. He was spot on.
Okay, so this attitude is my main problem with senior Forgehub. Legally, you're not wrong - you have the right to offend someone and not be silenced. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Being deliberately offensive (not the problem here) or just refusing to care about how someone else will react to your post (the problem here) doesn't make you a brave warrior who doesn't afraid of anything - it makes you come off like an asshole who doesn't give a **** about the community. If you really want your views adopted by someone - an improvement to a map, a change in the way the community values remakes vs. original designs - you're not even helping yourself by being bruising in your communications. Flies and honey and whatnot. I want everyone to express their opinions - that's why I'm on the forum, so I can learn from everybody. But I want everyone to be adults about disagreements. I want us to feel more like a community, and less like Waypoint. This post has a gone a lot farther than just you @Xandrith - it's more about what happens when highly visible senior members (even staff members) don't like something and then decide to **** on it in the name of "being honest" and "not compromising my views." It's really off-putting to new and returning members, and it's what makes this place feel so damn political and negative at times. TL;DR - Feelings are important, and being nice doesn't mean you have to give up your views. Criticism is not welcome without the "constructive" piece.
This has to be the most honest, accurate, humble, enlightening, and gracious statement I have ever read... At forgehub anyways...
1. I wasn't whining, It was a simple statement. 2. It wasn't a rant, it was literally one sentence. 3. Nice word play. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 13, 2016 --- I can agree with pretty much all of that.
They let schnitzel run loose around here. I plan to forge a couple of maps when forge PC comes out but I won't come here for feedback because of him alone. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 13, 2016 --- What HOSTILITY? --- Double Post Merged, Aug 13, 2016 --- Uh... no
One thing I think that would help a lot would be to remove the railings around that catwalk that separates the garage and those higher areas. I think you would see a lot more level interaction that way
I think something we can all learn from this is we all understand level design differently. Usually the longer you've been at the gig, the more understanding you acquire. But if I say think that I understand more then another person, that leads to a cocky attitude and creates no useful feedback. What Xandrith said was rude, unhelpful and frankly childish. Saying "Remakes are stupid and don't deserve any attention" and "I have a right to offend you and you don't have a right to silence anyone" If it wasn't for maps like Sanctuary, The Pit, Damnation, Midship, and many other great halo maps in their respected ways, we'd all have a lesser understanding of Halo. The way we learn to understand the ways these maps function and work respectfully is different and may take time and hating on someone for creating one of these maps is in my opinion a sign that you think you know it all. One of the greatest qualities in a person I believe is humility, being able to admit your mistakes or reframe from poking fun at another remake. The only way to make this forum better is to erase the negativity and silent attacks on people's maps thinking that you have a better understanding of forge and their's nothing to learn from making a remake. Replace this with a positive attitude willing to help the person understand what faults their map may have and help him/her learn from their mistakes.
For the record, xandriths newest map is probably hosts the most diversified engagements and movement patterns I've seen in this game yet. I'm also full retard drunk right now so what do I know. I didn't read the posts
Yeah, not naming names but it would be nice if I, as a lowly FH new member, could get a game with some of the senior members and them not just **** over my map. "Yeah, I dunno, maybe scrap it." Like really dudes? Ive had a Forgehub account since Halo 5's forge came out. Before Halo 5, I forged maps for me and my friends/girlfriend to play on (rip split screen). My first asymmetric design was in Halo 5 lol. So its not really cool when even though there wasn't any game breaking bugs and it wasn't a ****ing octagon, I think it deserves more than "scrap it". I've seen much worse maps get much better feedback than that lobby gave me. I'm not much for drama, so I'm not naming names, but they know who they are. At least, I had fun on my map. That's the point right?
I've already cleared up that I wasn't attacking her, so I still stand by the silencing point. If I was actually going at her then yeah I get why that's bad, but just because my genuine opinion offends someone doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to say it. You're right about everything else though. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 13, 2016 --- To be fair the only "senior members" in that lobby were salty and I, and I'm like 99.9% sure neither of us said that... unless we did, lol I honestly don't remember.
Seriously dude, the quote in my post was said in that lobby. IT HURT SO DEEP ITS BURNED IN MY SOUL MAN
You may have not attacked anyone directly, but I'd like to still think ForgeHub is a place were people come to share content of all kinds wither their a new forger or an experienced forger. Comments like those aren't needed ever, If your tired of remakes, scroll past them. Leave them for people who care to enjoy them instead of bashing on it.
I liked the remakes btw. This is the WAYWO thread. She was working a few really good looking remakes. She has the right to post them without getting **** on. It's not like she's asking you to go and fund the making of the map on Kickstarter or something. Like Echo said, scroll past if you don't like em'.
