So, I am currently Forging a map outside of The Rig. The problem is the lightmap, or rather, lack of it. It's causing some really weird shadows (see attached), and light baking and chromas seem to do nothing. I tried creating a fake sun to force a lightmap, but when I tried light baking it in, it just shone right through as if the blocks were dynamic. If anyone has some info on whether it's possible to force a lightmap or not, that would be fantastic.
Some maps are less broken than others, for example, eden's shadows don't z-fight and such, making that a usable canvas. Fathom doesn't produce shadows at all, so also somewhat usable. But for those who's shadows z-fight, you're pretty much out of luck.
If you are really desperate to make use of an exterior canvas that isn't Eden or Fathom, you can try a Breakout map. The floors have their own lightmap, which is how Highrise doens't look awful. I've got one going on Molten because the canvas is beautiful, but a traditional aesthetic looks awful.
I've found a pocket of forgeable area outside of Stasis that isn't too bad. There is a sweet spot between the map's lit area and the far boundary that will teleport you back. The downside is still that it limits your aesthetic potential. You kinda have to roll with what it gives you.
Yup. Since I made out of map canvases for every map, excluding Plaza, I learned that some maps are just that way. But on maps like Stasis and Regret light can be much easier to block out.
Thanks everyone for replying and being so helpful. I really appreciate it. I've forged outside of Fathom and such and the lighting outside hadn't been broken, so I figured that applied to every disc map, but I was wrong.
