ReinaStorm submitted a new map: Train of Consequences - Ride the rails and fight on a moving train! Read more about this map...
Love the concept of fighting on a train. The surrounding landscape looks a bit sparse though. Also, does the train actually move or is it stationary?
I love the idea, small suggestion though, I would use textures for the seats (marble) it makes it seem a little more like its made of leather, some aesthetics and environmental improvements would go a long way for this map.The environment and aesthetics need work but it is a great concept, that is if you can get scripting to not give you a headache.
I really wanted more to the environment, but scripting was so messed up. And the train doesn't actually move. The earthquake filter, combined with some sounds, light embers weather, high winds, and moving cloud shadows make it have the illusion of movement. Textures haven't been added for the objects I used for the seats, so I can't do that yet. And I did try to have trees and such out in the fields, but the scripting was so glitchy. The trees and rocks would move, then start teleporting, and would eventually delete themselves off the map, even in customs. it broke the illusion. Believe me, that was one of the key parts to the illusion, and I was disappointed when the scripting was all screwed up. But I will keep trying, this map deserves the effort.
If you group the landscape in horizontal chucks you could script it to make the land move rather than the train to give the illusion of movement. Have a timer that spawns them at the very front and moves backwards for x amount of time until it is at the back and then despawn and respawn the group. If you do that with each horizontal strip and have a time delay equal to the width of a strip you might be able to pull it off. Great concept by the way!
I actually thought about that too, but because the terrain pieces are just blocks with a layer over them to have "ground" texture, the pieces wouldn't even look like they're moving. The ground texture on the piece is based on where the piece is in the playable space, but if it's moving in a straight line with other pieces at the same height, nothing will look like's moving. And there is the possibility of the ground just doing like the trees did and deleting themselves. With Halo 5's scripting being wonky right now, things are a little crazy. But I'm doing what I can to figure out how to make the illusion of movement better.

Maybe scripting would work better for boulders moving by... or have a simple block tunnel that spawns and moves over the train to give it more of the effect of movement. Yeah I wish scripting wasn't so weird sometimes
I actually had an idea similar to this that I was having @Yumudas Beegbut help me with. It had two base sized vehicles moving (vehicles were stationary but landscape moved underneath for an illusion) for capture the flag. Unfortunately the scripting kind of got hairy trying to get the never ending moving landscape effect.
Hey Reina, map looks great! Just wanted to add to the suggestions for movement given above, while you can't really do ground movement, you could definitely move a hill across the land! I can't play your map until later tonight, so I don't know if you've implemented any of these other things, so hopefully I'm not suggesting things you've already done - and if you're happy with it, obviously there's no reason to change anything. Anyway, some of the thoughts I had: -outside the train on the ground - killbox and gravity slides to make it look like anyone who jumps off the train gets launched back -rolling hills like your rocks and trees -moving grass to help give the appearance of the ground itself moving -dust coming off the wheels/sides of the train blowing backward (I think if you force control of the wind, you can make it seem like it's coming off in a specific direction - seems good for a smokestack too, if you have one) I'm sure there are good sound effects to give the appearance of movement, although you may already be using those. I keep trying to think of FX, I think there's some sort of dust ones that could pass the windows to make the outside seem like it's passing/blurring by (depending on how fast you want this thing rolling). Sparks coming off the wheels could be helpful too! Anyway hope some of those suggestions are useful! Can't wait to give it a try (oh PS you were right none of my saves took effect, I just had to reforge everything I did after the glitch started *sigh*)
Yeah, I tested most of what you suggested above. Grav slides were the first thing for me to test to see if the idea would even would work. I wanted to do some hill-y places that moved, but big terrain objects caused some drops in framerate occasionally. The same with very large rocks. I do have some smoke fx coming from the front of the train, only downside is with Halo 5's rendering system, it de-renders certain fx/lighting/objects/etc when you're a certain distance away. I did try spark fx, though. But because sparks are not effected by wind correction, it broke the illusion more than helping.
Yeah, I should've got that working, but I can't get anything finished... Usually get sucked into trying to make rotation and movement work reliably on those rare days that I fire up Forge. Haven't been here on the hub in weeks. @Yekkou, you still interested in doing this? The new gravity slides might work like a charm. I think I figured out that we can put a position reset script on just the parent object of a welded group, which could make your map very doable. I can try to focus and get the basics worked out or a template made. Guess I dropped the ball before. I have a whole list of ideas and some stuff actually working that I should just hand off to you guys that actually get stuff done. Should I just do an idea dump thread here or something? I don't even know anymore.
Nah, you didn't drop the ball man! You're good! PM me and we can talk more. I don't want to turn Reina's map thread into a something other than a discussion for their map. Haha
