We have recently encountered a tipping point in an issue that we have been pretty lenient on thus far, but otherwise do not tolerate: Alternative accounts are not permitted on ForgeHub. The reason is because they are often responsible for spam, false map ratings, and otherwise abuse of the way we want to run the website. It is not fair to other members to have their maps receive spam or inaccurate reviews from fake accounts, therefore we are taking a more forward stance on this issue. Any account found sharing an IP address that is suspected of being an alternate account will receive a permanent ban. The original account may also be subject to penalties or warnings at our discretion depending on the severity. These will be handled on a case by case basis, and we reserve the right to amend this practice or otherwise take action with or without notice. You are responsible for one account linked to any of your online usernames. If you have forgotten the password to your original account or would like to switch to a new one, please contact a staff member with your inquiry. We appreciate your understanding.
If you have to make a alt account to rate your own maps higher... you should probably just stop forging.
Could be for other reasons. One is you got banned previously (just had that this week, few nasty messages sent to my inbox, banned again). Or you want to post "anonymously".
Technically he did. Seriously though, I hate gym selfies too. I hadn't taken one in years! Finally started getting decent sized again, wanted something I could share with friends and family.
But, the I.P, what if its all scrambled? (not saying that I have an Alt) but what if the person on this website managed to use a program to scramble their I.P Address- I mean the likely hood of that is pretty rare, but still...
There is other ways to tell. Of course we aren't going to share those ways though so I will just say magic
As much time as people spend in the chat box and on this site, I feel that not enough of the regulars like, comment or rate maps uploaded. I know I'm guilty of the same thing, but I think we should all make more of an effort to comment on map submission's (in a positive manner). I click like for ones that interest me and I see some others do too, but we really should all make an effort to provide constructive feedback on the posted maps. More honest feedback and reviews on maps would help decrease the need for people to want to create alt accounts for their map to get attention...
I'd be more active if it was easier to view "Recent Posts" on my desktop like I can while on the mobile site.
This is a two fold issue. First of all, the rating system needs to be abolished. It is a deterrent for posting a map. And it's a problem because otherwise people would be posting their **** and submitting it to one of the many weekly game nights we run, and then people who participate in those can come back to the site and provide feedback on the map pages. The regulars are heavily skewed towards core gametypes, therefore things like mini games and BTB maps probably aren't going to see a lot of feedback simply because organizing random lobbies to play them aren't practical.
Also, a lot of people that say they want feedback really only want it if it's good. So in a lot of cases it's easier to just not say anything at all unless you only have good things to say. I completely agree though Fame. There's always a way to provide critical feedback in a way that a person can accept, digest, and grow from. Critical feedback that's conveyed respectfully can be extremely helpful, and it would be awesome to see more people give it. I personally would lean towards giving feedback via a post rather than through a map rating for a variety of reasons, but that's just my personal preference.
If even just the moderators alone made it a point to comment something on 3-5 of the maps posted everyday of their choice would make a huge positive impact on the community. I honestly am not going to download all the maps either, but a quick review from any of us would be appreciated by the map creators. If we said something nice about what we see in the pictures and then something that could use work based on what we see would be a decent place to start. I think the two most recent maps submitted should show up on the front page as new maps to help drive awareness and comments to them. I only push the issue cause I want to see to see the Forgehub community succeed and grow.
I imagine a lot of the staff dont have time to look at 3/5 maps a day in enough detail to give a credible score. Good feedback wont just come from pictures alone. This is the same for site members. They do their own thing (college/work etc), then forge/play lobbies, asking to pick 3/5 maps to look at every day is probably asking too much. Most map creators (especially the regulars as you mentioned) will have lobbies/social circles where they can go into much more detail and provide far superior feedback to that of somebody looking at a photo and throwing a random score down. This can be done at multiple stages of designing a map, whereas on here, the map generally has to be completed for it to be reviewed. Theres always ways to improve the system in place here (and is being discussed currently) but not to the point that forgers use it as their primary source of feedback.
