I don't doubt the gameplay side at all, and I haven't posted anything to suggest that. I just want the stairs to be smooth, like they should be.
Alrighty, you weren't online when I finished my work, so I'll just post the results here: Unfortunately the pieces you used for the staircases do have wierd edges... It was very hard to put the invisible blockers into the right position (they're still not perfect imo), plus the pieces had different distances from each other, which made it even more difficult for me to get them right. That was the version you already saw, but I wrote this, so people can understand the following footage etc.: So I tried to make it perfect, but failed in doing so due to the factors stated above. I tried different techniques with the staircase in the first floor, but the technique I used for the one on the second floor is the best one for sure. The other techniques were a failure... So basically I converted the second staircase into my own and started from scratch with perfect coordinates and a perfectly round staircase, however I used 1x4x8 pieces for that one. Watch the video first, before you keep on reading: This just shows my meticulous forging: lol http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Buddy Jumps/video/20173340 This is the one you're looking for: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Buddy Jumps/video/20173695 This is just a flythrough with the monitor: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Buddy Jumps/video/20173689 I coloured them brown and gave them a wooden texture, since it was a pretty usual thing in the Middle Age that the inside of a big tower is made out of wood. Also, their vertical form adds to the depth and the height of the tower, which the other staircase doesn't, I guess. Don't get me wrong, I just did those two things and that's it, I didn't care about lighting or exact colour etc.. So either I remake the upper staircase from ground up and try my best with the invisible blockers (which is going to take a while) or you take my new version and spice it up a little bit. I would choose the new staircase, since it fits better to the whole theme of this map in my opinion and looks realistic, however it's your map, so I'll just stop here and let you decide. Cheers. (Sorry for the long post)
Looking up and down on a map is stupid, looking left and right is when the gameplay gets exciting. Horizontal verticality, if you will.
I can't express how thankful I am, so I will simply "like" your post But seriously, thank you so much. I was ready and willing to move on, but I was NOT happy about it. I'll be using your second (wooden) staircase, since it's so damn smooth. It should also be pretty easy to spice things up by adding supports and what not. Thanks again! I am in your debt.
Two things. 1. I've changed the geometry a bit here and there, but the biggest change was the cover added to the OS platform. Here's a walkthrough that also shows most of the jumps. http://xboxclips.com/xXandrith/c4a3f3fa-b676-4aac-9390-8f67ae986206 2. As you can see in the video, two of the staircases aren't finished. I didn't want to be "that guy" so I really tried to get them smooth. I got em' working in a separate version, but nothing like what @Buddy Jumps did to the tower. Will my mini-game making friend help me out once more? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z! Anyhow, the map is very close to reaching a playable Alpha. It won't look pretty, but we'll find out if the map plays like I want it to or if Halo 5's sandbox will claim another victim.
Just a thought "Timelost" could be interesting given the theme and inspiration. I spent a lot of time in Storm Peaks trying to get that Time Lost Proto Drake!
Ulduar fits better given the theme. --- Double Post Merged, Aug 7, 2016 --- Or Hodir, given that name was for the rep grind in that area and so much more.
Haha, yeah literally everytime someone says "oh dear" I hear hodir in my mind. Anyways, I like Ulduar.
Come on, man... Name of the file? I like the extra ring structure at OS spawn, makes gameplay more interesting in that specific area.
@Buddy Jumps I made some significant progress and renamed it Uluar. If you would so kindly use that version, I would be very thankful Once these stairs are done, all I need to do is add spawns for the initial playtests.
Oh, stop it. Alright, done. Doesn't look as good as it could, since the inner side is not a circle. That's why I temporarily added a simple block in the middle to imitate a ring type of look. In this area I didn't make anything yet, since I think you can make your type of staircase in there, just wooden. I think for that specific room it fits better. If you could see through them aswell like in the other rooms it wouldn't add anything, like everything you would see is a ground. Furthermore you can't go beneath them, so yeah. ^^ By the way, what did you do with my perfectly even coordinates of the lower staircase? They're all uneven now, haha. ^^ I know, it's not your fault. I hate to see that object/angle shifting is still a problem in this iteration of Forge.
