thrillerkillers submitted a new map: Invade the Cartographer (The Silent Cartographer remake) - A Near 1 to 1 remake of the campaign mission "The silent cartographer" with invasion gametype. Read more about this map...
I like how unique this map is by the fact that you made your own invasion themed gamemode for it!! Great work. This map looks amazing!!! Whats with all TSC Map remakes this week, 5th one ive seen and i havent been disappointed yet!!! Is this map set up for BTB? If it was and you submitted it to Meet your Maker on Halo Customs then I know this would be a great contender for that
thanks! =) yeah there have been so many, makes it hard for each one to get its due attention haha. I thought about making a BTB mode, but I do not think the layout works too well, and it is just so ridiculously huge it wouldnt work too well. Maybe if I reworked the layout to be more like death island like some of these other maps people are releasing.
I don't know, see isnt big team battle for BIG Maps? Thats where a lot of people go wrong, people think adding a mongoose makes a map BTB haha Back in the day, especially with CE in Halo 3 Era would have 3 scorpion tanks per side haha thats BTB!!! Your map would work so well with it, well all of them would, but looking at scale and size and accuracy of yours it would be so good I reckon!!!
I do remember those days when BTB actually used to be fun! I am kinda nervous that the spawning system isnt designed for btb any more though. But I think I may definitely give it a try! if you have any ideas please shoot me a message =)
I just downloaded the map and went around it in forge, and I gotta say it looks pretty awesome! The only thing I have to complain about is the terrain. I would go back and smooth it out a little bit, especially since you have the budget. I gotta try it in a custom lobby soon
I want to do that, but I actually dont have the physics budget (even though I have more pieces). The collision literally wont let me spawn a single item more (Except a weapon pad). And I dont want to break the physics and possibly messup any scripts that make the game mode possible
Maybe try flipping the terrain? One sides flat whilst the other has a natural bump/hill. Try mixing them up and blending them, see how that works?
When I was in forge I was able to duplicate a terrain piece. I'm not sure how many you can do, but I could at least get one lol. This might help with smoothing out some parts, if you haven't done it already.
Just checked out your map with one of my friends and I do say, this looks awesome! Though we did find spots where you could get out of the map, break it and in general just cheat. On the attackers side of the safe rooms I think they have a bit too much power with the amount of ammo they're getting compared to the defenders. Especially on that CE Magnum. About the safe rooms. Is it possible to make them look more like armories? For immersion's sake and since you have the budget to it.
I would love to see where you break the map! I personally wanted to give the attacking team a little more fire power to balance out the map. I wanted it to progress until the last part, even if they were a little less skilled. In my experience, it ends up taking up the whole 15 minutes even with a good team. I really want to do more with the map, but my physics/collision budget is maxed, and im a little nervous breaking it since the map requries scripts to work
I was able to play this in a custom lobby last night and wanted to give you my feedback on it. I'll start off by saying this was pretty fun to play! I like how it mimics the campaign level and how you actually have to move through out the map as if you were playing it (my team was able to open the final door literally at the last second lol). A very interesting idea and fun to play Now on to how I think you can improve the map and gametype: 1. Spawn weapons - I don't think players should be spawning with BRs. There are two reasons to this: 1: Precision weapons make it hard to engage enemies and encourage spawn killing. 2: It doesn't make sense for the "Covenant" to spawn with BRs, especially since they get Covenant weapons in there spawn room. I would just make the starting weapon an AR only, or something simple like that, and add BRs, DMRs, Carbines, or whatever to the spawn room. 2. Add more weapons to the spawn rooms - I like how you had UNSC and Covenant weapons for each team, but they seemed limited for the most part. I played as the attackers and it seemed like the only weapon available was the CE Magnum which, while fun to use, got stale and seemed OP. Towards the end I saw Rockets and a Shotgun, but I didn't notice them earlier on. I'm not sure if I was just missing them or if they actually weren't there, but I would change it if that's the case. I also liked how UNSC got overshields and Covenant got camo. It was a nice touch and made things interesting 3. Map boundaries - I would add more invisible blocks or kill barriers on parts of your map. I was able to get into the cliffs and sneak around the enemy, which I don't think I should have been doing. This should be an easy fix. 4. Add more teleporter receivers- It seemed like for each checkpoint players would only come out of one receiver, which meant there was a lot of spawn killing since you knew where the enemy would spawn. I would add 1 or 2 more receivers for players to spawn at. 5. Make the switches/barriers more obvious - The first switch and barrier were kind of confusing. We weren't sure what we were supposed to do at first and weren't sure how to advance on. After we figured out the first switch we got the hang of it, but I would try to make it a little more obvious on what you need to do. Maybe add a blinking light or something. 6. Fix the scoring for strongholds - We used your gametype for your map, but the scoring went to 150 and we didn't get any points for capturing the stronghold. You should change it to 1 point to win, 1 stronghold to capture points, one second capture time, 1 second scoring interval. I think that's it. I know you said you were having issues with the physics budget, but I'm sure you could go back and edit the map a bit to fix things up and simplify things, while other issues can be easily solved just by changing settings. I think you did an amazing job on this and I think making these changes would make it even better! Let me know what you think of the feedback and if you need me to explain anything into more detail or if you need help with anything else
I will look into these issues, thanks! as for the BR start, that was not in my gametype, i had pistols and AR's so im not sure how you got BR start. and as for the point limit, im not sure why the gametype did that either, I have a 1 second to get 1 point and win the round. Are you sure you were using my gametype?
Hmmm, maybe the gametype just didn't load properly, Halo 5 is like that sometimes lol. I still think you shouldn't have a precision weapon, like the pistol, for spawn weapons, but that's just my opinion
yeah, it mayabe just loaded normal BTB strongholds. yeah at first I had halo CE pistols, and that definitely was OP. And because of how big the map is, the normal magnums didnt seem to be OP. Maybe try it out with the gametype loading normally and let me know how it feels to you. As for the places you snuck around, I would love to see what spots you were talking about, because I have invis walls that block people from advancing to the next phase before a button is pushed. as for the spawn weapons, the more common weapons are on 15-30 second spawns, where as power weapons are 1.5-2.5 minute spawns. It really comes down to luck of the time of respawn for getting those power weapons. It makes sure that an entire team is not OP at the same time. I definitely do need to add more teleporter receivers, and I have the groudn and rock formations as absolutely simple as possible (which is what takes up all of the budget) but I am going to go back in this week and figure out some things I can do to it! that button thing has been my biggest difficulty, since I cant put navs (tried weapon pads, didnt really work out too well). if you have any ideas, please let me know!
Yeah, if you wanna try to party up sometime tonight or maybe one of the next couple days just send me a message/invite on Xbox and let me know. I'll show you where I broke out, some of my recommendations, I can try to help you simplify the map, etc. I really wanna see this map at its best
so i just realized that 343 completely reset my settings on my gametype for some reason. I just reset it
