Some of you know that I'm going to buff up Pegasus, well I'm looking for feed back what people do not like or do like about on the map. if people can go into a brief detail on they feel about parts of the map that would be great. also if people would like to bring up what they did like about the December beta version of the map please do so! Thanks!!!!!
All I can do is nit pick with a map that needed a complete redesign in the first place, so I'll refrain from posting about that stuff. But I do hate floating trapezoids.
The beta version had an outside path that connected under rocket bridge, blue spawn, and top deck 7. This helped the map feel like it had 3 lanes instead of a square with s**t in the middle. I think a better/narrower version of this path and some more interesting ways through middle would solve a lot of the issues. There needs to be at least one more counter to top deck 7. Reference:
This is where I'm already leaning towards. I have a beta version in my file share already and all read made some of those changes like you said. I feel the beta plays alot better then final, however can still be improved on. Also thank you for a good feedback post
I agree, I think the beta was the real idea and the final version we got was a hasty rebuild without enough feedback. I'd like to play the new version you have in your files. Look forward to seeing some screenshots.
Well, to be frank, I don't think there's anything you can do to make that a believable play-space by any means. It will forever be an un-immersive assortment of blocks over natural terrain. And design wise, it has horrendous problems with Red Side being way too easy to defend, and way too powerful over the majority of the map. On top of that, Blue Base, while no where near as powerful as Red, can be held down very successfully and create very stale matey games. The best approach to the map is a top-down redesign. And but that, I mean redesigning the whole god damned thing. The design is bad. That's all there is to say. Perhaps a spiritual successor of the map could be made to play well, but as it is, even with tweaks, the design is bad. I know this isn't the sort of feed back you were looking for, and you're probably not gonna heed any of it, but that's what I have to give. Take it or leave it, that's your choice.
I agree on redesigning blue and maybe connecting to a middle structure that is elevated with a LOS to top red somehow. Just a rough idea but some of the middle and blue should be redesigned and spawning back carbine was so annoying. EDIT: ^ I played you on cobalt the other day
Pretty awesome that you did Orion and now they're giving you Pegasus to work on. I would definitely make Red base less powerful. Try playing with weapon placement. Maybe put OS where Sniper is and Rockets where OS is and then Snipe on Rocks spawn. Also there should be a way to escape the area where the Shotgun spawns. That's a death trap along with Blue Spawn. If the Sniper is always heading to Red Spawn then the Light Rifle could probably moved to Carbine/Blue Spawn. Maybe even toy with leveling the map out and not making it so that everyone wants to be up top on Red Spawn. I'd be glad to test any changes.
Oh they aren't giving it to me I just doing this to help improve my level design and for fun. I did mention that I am doing Pegasus after Orion was done in the community spot light. Also thank you for the feedback
Aha. I did this months ago, should get around to making a map thread about it. It's in my file share as Jailbird. But since this is forge and nothing really matters there's nothing that's preventing you from creating a version of Pegasus as well, so I'll give you some tips! Generally, when I made my Pegasus, I stuck to three main goals: to balance red base/bring power to other areas to the map, to give it a better scale, and to give the map an actual theme. The first one is kind of a given, and depends on your level design choices. I won't go through all of mine. The second thing, is I gave it a better scale. Pegasus is unnecessarily big, and many parts of the map go unused or not used very much. The only real hot spots are red base and sniper. So, I shrunk the map a bit. Unfortunately, I shrunk the map a little too much, so 4v4 is imo a little chaotic, but free-for-all, 3v3, and 2v2 work great. Heck I've played a few sweaty 1v1's on it. So unless you want a smaller map, don't descale too much. Third one is also a given, Pegasus is kind of boring and grey. Honestly, I sort of like the minimalistic look, but the majority of players don't feel this way. I gave mine the aesthetic of a jail yard under reconstruction. I'd love if you didn't use that theme, but do something creative and unique to you. What do you think Pegasus, behind all of the blandness and greyness, "feels" like? I thought it looked like a jail, so I made my version that. But it also could look like a forerunner structure in the middle of a desert, or a covenant ship, or even an urban office building. Those are just examples but there's plenty of different types of aesthetics you could go for, Pegasus is pretty flexible in this regard. Well, that pretty much wraps it up. As a forger who's tackled Pegasus before, these are the three main things I can suggest. I wish you luck on your forge! I’m going to go ahead and chime in to say that I like the clean and minimalist look of Pegasus. Sure, it doesn’t have a theme, but I don’t think it necessarily has to have one.
