Hello Forge community. I am a little disappointed in what we have been coming out with because I see fantastic maps that blow me away, but most lack in scripting. I personally love the idea of scripting and have made it my mission to become an expert in the field, but I want a way to help some of the people who might be better at aesthetics. While originally I was planning on doing commissions, I came up with a far greater idea. I want to assemble a team of "expert scripters" who can be tech support. Ideally, you would be able to send a message or email to one account and the first one of us to access it would try to help you. If one of us couldn't resolve the situation, we could consult the group. Unfortunately, I can't do it all alone, so if you are interested in participating in this endeavor, post a response or send me a message. My gamertag is ExpiredEGGGNOG (Yes that is with 3 "G"s). Please come prepared with an example of script work you have done in the past. Also, if you are skilled and interested in management or administration it would be great to have someone in charge, who doesn't particularly have to be the most skilled forger. Thank you for your time and Happy Forging! EDIT: I realize that many experienced scripters are already on other forge teams, but this is merely an attempt to set up something solely for people who need help scripting. We would be happy to still have you, and can work around any previous commitments you made. Basically, you can be on both teams.
I actually think this is a really cool idea I just see some problems. The forgehub community sucks and anyone with that knowledge wouldn't help others(Im just saying this in gerenal not everyone). So im in, I have plenty of scripting experience I can help out.
@cookies4you (OP maybe message this lad) who was the most notable scripter I know has had multiple threads helping out people with a variety of issues. Maybe if you hopped off your high horse, you'd see this community full of helpful people Yes, how savage. Yawn
I wasn't saying everyone in this community is not helpful, I was saying a large portion of the better forgers do not help others.
I think the point is that you should be focusing on the helping part, not the hindrance. Talk about what you want to have happen, shitty is always going to be shitty
I think there definitely should be a scripting team to help members and forgers that are new to scripting and programming!
Also, there are testing lobbies/groups that focus more on quality/QA like Creative Froce and ATN. Im sure they have roles assigned to scripting.
Yes, but many of the times someone needs scripting help right away, before they're ready to test their map, and some of those testing lobbies are strictly about gameplay and filled with some people who might not understand forge, but thank you for the advice.
Like I said, those groups focus more on QA/Testing and guiding maps through a streamlined process, all of which are involved in forge, not just random MM warriors. Anyways, tried to help.
I'm currently trying to figure out how to contact some of them, thank you for the advice! However, filtering through each lobby might take a while, so here goes nothing.
Egggnog, I would suggest posting some of your work that you've done in the past. That would be the best way to get people interested and find people on the same level as you or people that would help you grow and grow themselves from a partnership from you. I pretty sure I know exactly the group you are talking about but I wouldn't let a few members ruin your outlook on the forgehub community. There are a lot of members that are experienced that are willing to help if they are able. Probably a majority to be honest. There is just those few who only want to help if they're benefitting themselves with the friendship.
I have a video coming out soon documenting one of my best projects, and I'll link it later, but I would prefer to release the video first. That's a great idea though.
This is one of my favorite projects and I believe it is an accurate representation of the level I work at (or at least try to). It's fine if you are at a different level, we just need people who are ready to help and enjoy helping others. The team could also use other skillsets that could be applied to almost every team. EDIT: Rather than having the switches despawn and respawn by sending messages you could have them change the power channel and add that in to the multi s required for the elevator to move. If you want more info on this I can help you out personally.
This is my pedigree. [1] It might not look like much, but scripting is just a part of what I do. Most of my content is actually R&D. [1], [2], [3], [4] Doesn't stop me from sitting in the shoutbox and answering scripting questions though.
I'm going to play devil's advocate here, and ask are they obligated to help you? Do you assume that they had help, and that they didn't learn what they know on their own?
I have seen some of your previous work and would be really excited if you decided to join the scripting team. I have noticed you in the chatbox before too, but saying as you can't always be there, I feel something official could have a strong presence.
The members of Creative Force have been more than willing to help with scripting issues if anybody has them. @Captain Punch in particular is very versed in scripting. Nitro, @Sn1p3r C have also done some fun scripting things as well. If you need any support feel free to reach out to me. I'm the one that bosses them around. The best thing you can do is show that you've taken initiative yourself to support other people without "needing" others. Showing videos of your past work is helpful, but also taking the time to reach out to people who have built quality maps and suggesting some cool scripting ideas. Go a step further and make changes to popular maps then show the original creator and say "hey I had this idea and I threw it together, what do you think". Also understand that if you put out the effort there will be times that people will not appreciate the effort you put out and that effort will go to waste. So you don't get offended and say "well I did all this work for you!", it is their map. It is a common pitfall of people who attempt to be helpful in the past decade of the forge community. Being a helpful member of the community requires a lot of initiative and it helps to lessen the amount of work that others have to do. It is how I ended up with the CF team that exists now. I did a lot of pre-work showing that I could manage the team and that I had the desire and investment to make the team succeed. Building a team is not easy so I wish you the best of luck good sir.
