This is the attitude of those that achieve greatness. **** talk yourself to a place where no one can touch you because you can describe any map as being bad or any map as being good. It is the same thing, coin, whatever you want to call the concept of opposites and black and white. It varies from person to person because everyone is their own person who sucks at life. I say they are the same thing because one does not exist without the other. They are words that would not have purpose otherwise.
I thought the results were fairly good picks. I think that in the future there could be a more efficient and overall better way to judge though. Hopefully there will be more resources available for future contests.
Way late and didn't read most of the replies in this thread but, insert self promotion of http://www.forgehub.com/maps/guilty.1756/ here. Best 2v2 map ever cuz its a forge ball. *drops mic*
Haven't been here for a couple days but my favorite map submitted was symmetrical by sikamikaniko (name escapes me and I'm still away for weekend)
Ineligible for the contest I understand but why ineligible for mm? Can no staff get their maps in? Can no staff ever get into mm
Ah okay. Well I've had a lot of fun on this map and other people I've played with have too and while I never stressed tested it the map seems pretty sound. So for everyone (seemingly condescendingly) asking to name a quality map that was submitted (I think I saw him post it even though he was ineligible) then I'd like to say I think this map is a very good example.. And it's not even my map
One of the controversies surrounding the contest has been that the results, and supposed matchmaking list has "no variety or diversity" of playstyles or designs, mostly in regards to asymmetric maps vs symmetric maps. This is a valid concern; however, it gets no where when nobody is posting maps to the contrary. @Sikamikanico's map "Cavern" is what you're referring to, correct? I actually walked back and forth on the map with him in the winter and helped him polish the design. It went through a lot of changes, but the last I checked he was still having some issues with the gameplay and layout. Had it been submitted to the contest, it's possible it could have been a serious contender, and I would have listed it in the post above if it fell short for one of those reasons. But that brings me to my point again. If there are good 2v2 maps in the community that people want to see in matchmaking, now is the time to bring them forward and look into giving them any necessary polish. I would absolutely love to see a diverse map pool in the doubles playlist. I don't want to play indoor room based asyms all day anymore than I want to play 343's sterile, symmetric factory maps churned out for Halo 5's other playlists. My personal wish for future contents is that 343's schedule and plans do not impact or influence our own. They should be done separately.
I don't think it was called cavern but I could be wrong. It was very emerald like. People have been saying they want to name maps they want to see acting like there are no credible maps so I was naming the one I really enjoyed
Are you talking about his asymmetric one? He posted it recently in WAYWO with texture updates. I believe that also was going through some geometric changes, but I haven't had a chance to run on it again. That wouldn't have been submitted to the contest if I recall correctly, but it may still have the opportunity to go into the playlist. @WARHOLIC or @NOKYARD would know more about that because that's 343's domain.
This seems familiar. If it's the map I played a while ago in one of Max's lobbies, then I remember it (and it was a lot less blue at the time). I'm not sure how much you've changed judging from the pictures, but at the time I thought some of the geo could use simplifying with smoother paths and concentrated lines of sight. When I get back on Xbox, I'll give it a look and let you know. But by all means, I think everyone should feel free to post 2v2 maps for matchmaking in here.
Not much to change without xblive plus I was waiting til after the contest to update the parallax lighting changes and what not but
[\QUOTE] But by all means, I think everyone should feel free to post 2v2 maps for matchmaking in here.[/QUOTE] If we are doing shameless promotions/submissions. Why not? I have two maps that are newer than the contest submissions I had. Both have been extensively tested with the ATN network for Arena gameplay. Gamertag - LoTuS Fileshare Jarvik Prime Kelvin The champion level competitive players I custom with love 2v2 on these. Hope you'll give them a look. I promise they are much better than my previous maps. If you've played these before please don't overlook them. I have been changing geometry and balance 4 times a week with different lobbies.
Now that the dust has settled a bit, I'd love to get some feedback on my two submissions now that you guys don't have to be super secret anymore. I already messaged goat about it & I know it would be crazy to ask you guys to give feedback on 145 maps, so just do mine k?
Id agree with this. A tad insulting for 343 to push for maps to be submitted at the end of March, then not doing anything still. As advice for those who feel their maps are MM worthy, simply saying "my mates/top players think this should be in MM" is not enough. If we went by that criteria, the maps at the top of r/halo would all get into MM. And pro players pushed for Station 9 in the Halo 4 days, which was probably the worst map seen in ANY shooter at a high level. Run your lobbies, get feedback, and the quality will speak for itself and word will spread.
I think if your you're choosing your finalists and winners through what was visually better than something else your missing the point of judging level design. Aesthetics shouldn't be what makes a map that plays better lose to map that plays worse but looks pretty, ala quite a few of the winners. The example I'll gives is Heads Up. It plays a damn sight more intrestingthan Purple Reign or Hazard, and has some seriously considered design. but they're winners in a contest about level design? Seems like Flawed Judging Parameters to me The consideration put into the Design of Head Ups, why which connections take you where, and the interaction between levels, and your movements around the map are very well designed and considered. Purple Reign doesnt have that level of consideration into its pathing and and its interaction. It's just a space.
