Please use this thread to discuss the 2 v 2 maps from the contest that are likely to be going into Matchmaking. Note that maps do not have to be pulled from the contest to be considered for matchmaking. If there are new or other maps you think should be looked at, post them in this thread!
(This is based on nothing), 343 have been known to override CCs in the past. Id expect 343 dont select all the maps from the contest, and instead pick some to their liking.
Well, what are the maps that the judges are pushing? Having that list would be a great start. Weren't the top 10 maps from the contest supposed to be pushed? I know from the top 10 list I saw (it was passed around the community after a judge leaked it), there are some snubs and a lack of real diversity. As Zombie pointed out, most of the maps are very similar stylistically in the play styles they promote. Personally, I'd love to see some drastically different maps in the lineup... Like Legion, or my very own map, Twice Forsaken. I'd also like to see some symmetrical maps, as I know there were solid ones submitted that were far better than the bag of ass I submitted.
Ok, I don't want to insult anybody. My opinion is pretty clear now. I haven't seen the other 5 maps but I just feel like the top 5 have the same style layout (except optic prison, haven't seen that one yet). I'd like to see some arena style maps too. Symmetric maps too. It wasn't a lash out or an attack on anyone. Not the judges or the forgers I just figured out of 145 maps there had to be some decent symmetrical or arena style maps to put in & mix things up a bit. I didn't see every map though.
Ive never got why people like symm maps in 2 v 2. It essentially stifles creativity, makes you worry about balance, and halves the potential meta. It has a place in 4 v 4, but not 2 v 2. Out of all the maps in Halo's history, Middy is the only "ok" 2 v 2 symm map, and thats all it is, ok. Boring, unimaginative, just ok. To me, its odd to take one of the maps in the top 10, half it, then mirror it, and suddenly its diverse.
Maps I believe were given at the end of March, heard nothing since. Doubles doesnt seem to be 343s priority anymore.
Oh my bad, I don't keep a ****ing database tracking maps that I've seen. I just assume that if my egocentric ass has seen them, other prominent members of the community have as well, considering how little I look at other people's work. Zombie has some. AceOfSpades has some. KyleIzBeastly has one too IIRC.
Let's be straight, it's hardly a 343 thing, but more a Quin thing. If it doesn't line up with Quin's vision of Halo, it's not important.
But isn't the entire argument revolved around contest maps pulled for matchmaking? Zombie submitted one, but other than that I don't think Ace was around or submitted anything during the submission period. Not familiar with KyleIzBeastly so I can't speak on his maps. I think it's kind of unrealistic to ask for their to be some level of significant (even if it's just one map) symmetrical representation when the map pool of quality 2v2 maps at large doesn't feature a similar ratio. And to be clear, I'm not against symmetrical maps at all. I've spoken out before how I think the entire "symmetrical maps are half as good/deep/creative as asymmetrical maps" sentiment is complete BS.
Well that's why I said I assumed there would be. I haven't seen all the maps but I figured there would be some. My thoughts on symmetrical maps are the fact that they are the most fair in a tournament. Brag all you want about asyms but they will never give as fair of a battle as a symmetrical map will, end of story. That's why I like them. How can you downplay balance in a competitive setting?
Its just that in general the smaller maps for the older games were in fact symmetrical or pseudo symmetrical (Warlock, derelict, sanctuary) and those types of maps have a more intrinsically "Halo" feel to them generally. Not many games do symm maps anymore other than Halo, and that is part of the reason it is somewhat upsetting to see that no symm maps made the cut even to the rumoured group pushed for matchmaking.
Well, I heard (from a judge) my shitty Luxor Station was somehow the highest placed symmetrical map in the contest, supposedly coming in between 15th and 20th (but knowing in the band it was beat by Black Ice, but beat Twice Forsaken, realistically it's between 16th and 19th), and I can't fathom it being the actual best symmetrical map submitted... Sooooo....
I think it'd be quite the stretch to say Warlock or Sanctuary were even remotely tolerable for 2v2s in Halo 2 (or in any other game).
Still waiting for you to actually finish a map or show your value as a judge of maps, rather than being on your high horse believing that you're some how qualified to look down on other people's work... Because, you know, you've shown just how great a designer you are...
Different tastes in 2v2 speed. I prefer slower more tactically playing 2v2, not the spawn in and immediately find you killer types, and maybe that is just me being old fashioned. But I feel that dissonance, there are no slow playing maps in the there that made it even to the MM list that I saw which is a shame.
I wasn't going to put it so bluntly but 3 legged goats condescension is really showing right now yikes. This site has enough trouble with reputation and this is the kind of attitude that keeps breaking it down. Shoot, my map Excalibur, although too big for 2v2 according to some (i like slow, methodical 2v2 that still gets done within 12 minutes), has been polished a lot. I spent over 100 game hours editing, tweaking and etc. After hearing dozens of people say "DAMN this should be in MM" to me without my solicitation, YES i can say there are symmetrical maps that are worthy....just not to you.
I have a similar taste, but I appreciate there being diversity in the map selection and maps such as that being in the line up. Preferences are like ass holes, every one has them. The reason for having a highly diversified selection of maps with different play styles is because everyone has different tastes... And also it gets a bit stale playing the same style of shite over and over. I don't like Warlock/Wizard, but I'd like a map of that style in the lineup because of diversity. Ya get me?
