    Would you consider Halo 5 a good Halo game?

    After watching The Epidemic's most recent video, I began to think and realize that there are many people that just don't like the way Halo 5 plays and the mechanics involved. A lot of comments on YouTube, Game Informer, and other sites helps give me a sense of how many people gave up on playing Halo 5 after a few months in and how many people actually believe that it is a bad game.

    I believe those who gave up on the game after that short period of time should revisit it and try to look at the game with an unbiased opinion. Games change over the course of time, for better or for worse. I believe Halo 5 has generally improved over its life cycle with the monthly updates, improvements, and additions since it launched last year.

    But is Halo 5 really a good Halo game? What makes a good Halo game? For me it depends on how much I enjoy the gameplay, through custom games and matchmaking. So I believe it is a good Halo game based on my personal enjoyment and the fun I've had (mainly in customs lobbies however).

    Well, for me, its most definitely new, and creative, and a huge improvement compared to halo 4, but consider this, when i play a map and i intentionally turn off spartan charge, sprint, stabilizers, thrust, sliding and ground pound, (which is a shitton of new movement options), players ***** about it, of course they are accustomed to the new mechanics, but to answer your question, people who like the mechanics are satisfied, and those who wanted the older stuff, absolutely dislike it.

    I told some of my friends to come back and try Halo 5, they did and still didn't like it. This is because they didn't try it with an open mind. Trying something without an open mind is the same as not trying something at all, if not worse.

    ***Anti-343 kids beware***
    I've been playing since 2003, I'm not a cod kid or anything.o_O
    I personally believe Halo 5 is a fantastic game, and a pretty good halo game.
    Second best multiplayer (h3 in front obviously) imo.:yes::yes::yes::yes:

    The game is fun but irritating... if that makes sense. The gameplay is always mega competitive for some reason and warzone is repetitive af, but I always feel an urge to come back and play it, and I generally have a good time just about every time I load up mm.

    The spartan abilities/movement are sweet. It feels right/natural to be able to run around, clamber, thrust, etc.:yes::yes:
    Except spartan charge. F*ck that sh*t and every prick who uses it :mad::mad::no::no::no:

    Customs are showing incredible potential, if 343 showed some love to it we may have a better customs system than h3, and we'd see a much larger active community. :):):):viral:

    :forge:Forge was fashioned by God himself and refined by the angels.:forge::yes::yes::yes:

    Theater sucks c*ck:3D::popcorn::no::no:

    Campaign had a cool atmosphere but was pretty forgettable, biggest drawback to the game. The story was sorta all over the place and had a questionable ending, but was still a pretty fun campaign. (I didn't have to force myself to finish it *cough* BO2, which is a good sign)
    (my reactions as I went through the story)
    :)o_O:surprise::)o_O:):)o_O:(:mad::mad:

    Sorry CE-lovers, that's 3rd on my list. :yes::yes::yes:

    Pretty much this.

    This game is everything I wanted after H4. Not the greatest Halo ofcourse but certainly a huge improvement.

    Halo 5, to me, is a lot more enjoyable than the last three games behind it. (H4, Reach, H3.) It has enough of its roots integrated into the multiplayer to satisfy me, and it has the best Forge in the series. I just wish it debuted with more content.

    Halo 5 is the worst Halo game by such a far margine it's unreal. Every aspect of this game is pure and utter garbage with the exception of forge. Population numbers and retention show this as well.

    I understand what you're saying but halo 4 was a better game than Halo 5. The campaign was better. The theatre was better. The soundtrack was better. The god awful UI was probably better, it didn't have dedicated servers constantly going down, the unlockable system and the armor customization was better. It had a ton of game modes. There were even way more playlists. The only knock I have on halo 4 (other than the mechanics obviously) is that there weren't visible ranks, in game. The aiming was also very good in Halo 4. Also it had a great doubles playlist.

    In the end of it all, despite all the bullshit it still FELT more like a Halo game than Halo 5 does. In terms of the movement, the weapon zooms, weapon switching speeds, so on. In fact, I remember during halo 4s lifespan thinking how easy all the weapons were to use, but I realized a few weeks ago when I was playing MCC that Halo 4 has less auto aim than Halo 5, even the DMR was significantly harder to use (keep in mind halo 4 also has really smooth aiming, so that should speak volumes). Ultimately, forge aside Halo 4 was a much better game than Halo 5.

    In fact, the ONLY leg halo 5 has to stand on is even starts. If this game had loadouts it would've died faster than Halo 4.

    I respect your opinion but one thing about the numbers; don't they only tell half the story? Like the sales of the two consoles?

    Xbox one had more sales at halo 5s release than Halo 3 did at its own release.

    Halo 5 itself sold really poorly which should make player retention numbers really easy and convincing. But it doesn't, because even with the poor sales it has worse player retention than any halo game except Halo 4.

    343 has made one vague public statement saying "H5 has the best player retention other than Halo 3" which doesn't even make sense because halo 2 had better retention than 3. Also, the Xbox starts page and every public population counter says otherwise about h5. Halotracker says otherwise, as well as every single halo stat tracking website. If you do the math, less than 50k people played a single game in arena MM last MONTH. Granted a lot of people only play warzone but that means very little.

    Also suspicious, Xbox removed the "Most played"section on the dashboard. Halo more or less floated around #7 - #15, generally under battlefield 4, battlefront, two years of cods, fifa, maddden, Destiny, and a few others.

    I know it's unpopular but I really enjoy H5. Aside from H3, it's the next best game. I'm not gonna go into details about what I like or dislike all I'll say is I have played H5 more than I play Reach H4, and MCC combined. The only game I've played more than H5 is H3. H3 is by far better, there is actually KO comparison, but still.

    Not an attack here, just recognizing a trend you seem to follow across all of your posts similar to this thread (+1 point for consistency)

    first and foremost I'M NOT A 343 **** SUCKER

    It seems like you basically always back up your claim that H5 is the worst game by saying the population/sales were and still are low. While this may be true, I don't see how it makes it a 'bad game,' as that is a subjective manner that is determined on an individual level. Sure, it may show that a lot of people dislike or got bored of it, but how does that prove that "Every aspect of this game is pure and utter garbage with the exception of forge?" Maybe I'm overthinking it or missing something totally obvious like an idiot but I'm interested, lemme know.

    We agree that forge is better than the rest of the game.

    This soundtrack is incredible, wayyy better than h4's. And Reach's. And Wars. Hell, it's tied with the original trilogy. This comes from someone who has listened to just about every song from the franchise either in-game or when working

    Oh youre absolutely right. Popularity is never indicative of quality, I'm aware of that. But when people inevitably say "halo 5s multiplayer is considered an enormous success! "....

    Well, no. It wasn't. If that were true there would be higher player retention. Lower sales could mean many things, lower Xbox one sales, greater competition in the game market, etc but let's be real here. Halo 5 doesn't appeal to a HUGE margin of old halo fans, and after Halo 4 and MCC there's going to be a consequence. That's all fair game and I glad you brought it up. I only mention player retention and sales to beat people to the punch so we don't have to loop back to this conversation later.

    Regarding the soundtrack... Hell no lol. Granted music is always going to be a flimsy subject to debate, but oh Lord no is the soundtrack nowhere near Martys scores. As someone with a fairly strong music background, i think the reason the Halo 4/5 soundtrack resonate with so many people is because it's SOOOO generic. It's a typical 4 chord progression with a key change somewhere at the end. There's nothing remotely interesting or well done written about ANY of 343's tracks. In everyone one of Marty's songs there's so many interesting overlapping melodies and riffs on top of an upward scaling rhythm piece, and the overall progression of every song he's ever done is awesome. He's always got really cool intro melodies followed by a broken down melody and every song takes twists and turns and is just brilliant. Not to mention, the atmosphere of every Marty piece is so unique but so identifiably HALO, you could listen to any track and immediately know that it's a Halo song.

    Everything from 4/5 sounds like generic military sci fi4 chord trash. I could take the Halo 4 soundtrack and put it in any modern military movie about hunting Bin Laden and it wouldn't sound out of place. Halo 5 is a straight out of avengers. I think someone from beyond did a straight 1 to 1 overlay of the Halo 5 theme and the avengers theme and after a slight key change and time signature shift, the two matched up perfectly lmao it was disgusting.

    I'm not saying you can't enjoy their soundtracks, that would be pretty rude of me. But at some point you've got to be able to look at something you like and realize that it might not "objectively"be better than something else. Because let's be real, no one in the game industry is on the same level as Marty, INCLUDING 343s soundtracks (they have quite the way to go), which is expected. Because Marty is literary a genius at this stuff.

    Ok I'm back. I very much agree with you about the music. H5 is imo way better than H4 and Reach but nowhere near the original trilogy and ofcourse ODST, my personal favourite. Marty is indeed a true genius. Perfectly timed and always so memorable.

    Great points.
    Marty is God.
    Now that I'm thinking about it, I appreciate this soundtrack a lot because there's a lot of throwbacks to the og trilogy... the unique stuff (like Osiris' themes) is pretty generic. Good point about the chord progression, I've noticed that seems to be a reappearing theme as well. Also when you said key change at the end I immediately thought h4's 117.

    Allow me to rephrase myself:
    This soundtrack is the closest to the original trilogy's music, ODST aside

    But my God every soundtrack is incredible in its own way

    I went from being the only one out of my group of friends that wasn't going to buy H5, to being the only one that still plays it anymore.

    With that said, my enjoyment of the game is quickly diminishing. I'm getting really fed up with Matchmaking, playing the same shitty maps 3 or 4 times in a row, playing against a full team that is a whole division higher than me and getting completely stomped, etc...
