Our baby is back again, and looking better than ever. Let's kick off our reunion with a BANG!

    BEGIN TRANSMISSION
Hello Hubbers. Halo 5 forge has launched and a new era is upon us. To commemorate this grand occasion, Forgehub is breaking radio silence to announce a 2v2 Slayer forge map contest. There's no time to waste. Dive right in and get your hands dirty because the 2v2 Throwdown contest is ON!

    GOING LOUD
    Q. What maps can I forge on?
    A. Your map can be forged on one of the blank canvases - Alpine, Glacier, Parallax, or Breakout Arena. It can also be forged on any of the Halo 5 disc maps, however they can ONLY be used as a blank canvas. You CANNOT use existing geometry on disc maps.

    Q. Are there age requirements?
    A. No. Anyone who submits a map will be eligible to claim a prize.

    Q. Can I co-forge with my friend(s)?
    A. Yes! We love seeing community collaboration, so co-forging is allowed. However, be aware that your map must have a primary author who will receive any contest winnings.

    Q. Are remakes from (insert game here) allowed?
    A. Yes, however it is extremely unlikely that a remake will win any prizes because it will automatically receive a low score in the Originality/Creativity judging category.
Anyone found to be plagiarizing maps from other forgers will be disqualified, and shall forever be shunned by the forge community (so don't do it).

    SUBMISSIONS
Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on March 1st, 2016. All submissions should be tailored to 2v2 Slayer gameplay, both in size and in power weapon placement. All submissions will be tested using default slayer settings, so be sure to mold your maps to your liking with that in mind. Judging will commence immediately after the submission deadline and winners will be announced as soon as judging is completed.

To submit your map, simply create an account at www.ForgeHub.com, visit the "Maps" page and click on the "Submit Your Map" icon. Eligible submissions must contain at least 7 images per map. A YouTube gameplay video, or walkthroughs are heavily encouraged as well.
After posting your map, post a link to it in the Throwdown Submission Thread.

    SUBMIT YOUR MAPS: HERE

    JUDGEMENT DAY
Eligible map submissions will be judged based on:

    Game-type Support
    • Does the map function for the game-type as necessary? Are all required objects and systems in place to successfully play a game?
    Fun-Factor
    • Is the map fun to play on? Is the space fun to navigate through? Do the weapons, spawns, and layout promote a positive game experience? Is the map balanced and fair for the given game-type?
    Performance
    • Does the map suffer from any negative visual or performance issues?
    Originality / Creativity
    • Is the map interesting and unique in both design and appearance?

    JUDGE PANEL
    - a Chunk
    - a 3 Legged Goat
    - Xzamplez
    - WARHOLIC

    PRIZING
Nothing heats up these cold winter days like the burning desire to take home some of these fantastic prizes!

    1st Place - $500

    2nd Place - $350

    3rd Place - $150

    4th Place - our appreciation

    THE THROWDOWN
The goal of this contest is two-fold. First we want to find great maps, and then we want to play on great maps! Yes, you heard right. The winning maps chosen from this contest will be played on during an upcoming tournament (so don't tell anyone about the hidden Rocket Launcher that only you know about).

There you have it! Get out there and make us proud, Hubbers.

    END TRANSMISSION...

Well that one is your only chance. Someone said there were only asyms in the top 15. I had 1 of each but my asym wasn't as good as my symmetrical map so I'm pretty much screwed.

My asym beat the crap out of my other maps and brought me to only wanting to do asyms and more natural aesthetics.

I know one issue I had was that I was under the impression that we were not suppose to edit our maps after they were submitted to the contest. Now I don't think my map would have gotten close to winning, I had no time to give it a play test before submission and when I did it turned out to be a better 4v4 and up map, but I got antsy and wanted to improve it so I applied edits. This in turn in my mind disqualified it from the contest. No biggie there but the issue came from not having any notification of where the contest was. I understand wanting to keep the results secret to avoid outside influence but I feel maybe a notification of elimination would have been nice. Maybe an update of maps still in the running. By the end of the first month I said screw it and just started tweaking my map like any forger surely does. If my map for some reason did make it to the finals I would have not known and screwed myself for just wanting to improve the map. Maybe you guys have been notifying those still in the runnings how their maps are doing but us participation ribbon forgers are just sitting here scratching our butts wondering whats going on.

We can't really contact people to notify them when their maps are eliminated from the contest for a variety of reason, the primary one being that is essentially reveals the results of the contest prior to any official announcement. This would have been mostly a non-issue if the contest had been completed in a timely manner, so the fault falls on us for that. My apologies for that.

That's what I had assumed. Maybe in future contests you could narrow down the submissions to a finalists group. That way you don't see who wins but the community has an idea of what is in the runnings and can cheer on the maps they like. Either way no worries over here

I'm curious if making minor additions, like decals from the recent update, is grounds for disqualification. I'll freely admit that I altered one of the maps I have in the contest (Jade Harbor) by adding a few aesthetics. I originally avoided making changes because I didn't want to be DQ'd, but with nearly 20k bookmarks, I got tired of people sending me messages asking if I would be adding stuff from the update. I can assure that there were zero alterations to the gameplay or spawns. Only cosmetics.

Two and a half months since deadline, not being able to update my most popular map has been killing me.

All you would have had to do is message a judge and ask them to save your map locally due to you wanting to to upgrade the aesthetics. Should have been easy enough to accommodate.

Wait, that's a real map? I thought it was only an aesthetic map. :O

I'll take that as a compliment, but no, it's not an aesthetic map; It was made for 2v2. If it didn't play well I wouldn't have released it. It's not a traditional map, nor is it a Halo map, but it was tuned for slayer and I think it turned out well.

@Anemeros your map didn't make top 15 so you can do whatever you want with it.

Way too tight and crazy frame drops. I thought it was aesthetic too.[/QUOTE]

Why is it too tight? It's meant for 4 people max. As far as frame drops, not much I can do about it. Forge has a mind of its own. Sometimes there's no frame issues and sometimes there is. Seems to vary on a daily basis, but when I originally published it, there were zero frame rate issues. It is what it is.

No, there's no "forge has a mind of its own" to it. A map either has frame rate performance issues, or it doesn't. What matters is the severity of such performance issues.

As for your map... Well, it's literally a box with tight narrow hallways and little structures here and there that players can get caught on. If that's what you consider an actually playable map rather than an aesthetic map.... Well, I don't know what else to say other than:

Because frankly, that's an aesthetic map.

Don't care about placement, just hope people like it or had fun playing it. Anyway, I have no idea if what you are saying is true or not, but it doesn't really matter; it was endorsed by the devs and that's all the validation I could ask for.

Woah brother, relax. Just get tired of people calling it an aesthetic map when it wasn't intended to be. I wasn't trying to make a competitive masterpiece, especially since they dropped the matchmaking bomb post-deadline. I wanted to make something fun and unlike other Halo maps. Everyone I talked to said that it was original and Slayer was fun, so I succeeded in my goal unless everyone was blowing smoke. No need to get catty.

"Competitive masterpiece". See boys, this is exactly the sort of bullshit logic that prompted me to make my latest thread.

"Everyone I talked to said it was original and... fun". Yes, because the feed back you get from friends is totally valid and holds up to the same level of standard experienced designers and hard core players expect.

I'm relaxed bruv, nothing to take personal here... Just, you're map is an aesthetic map. Sorry. And not exactly the most novel of ideas either.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on some of your points, but your delivery is childish. If you want I can take the low road and pick apart your super inspiring and unique maps, but I'm not fifteen anymore so I'll leave it at that.

This is supposed to be a community for like-minded and creative people, so either check your ego at the door or keep making yourself look like a brat. Your call.

OR you could not try and pass off an aesthetic map as anything but that. ;)

And please, take the low road. I'm in need of a laugh (not that I'm not having one now).

When is it appropriate to start posting popcorn eating gifs?

Just so this is not ENTIRELY a shitpost, I think the map is interesting aesthetically. I played a game on it way back and it wasn't memorable from the gameplay. Framerate issues can be countered by choosing more appropriate pieces or making slight sacrifices, but it's ALWAYS worth it (though this is coming from a guy who has framerate issues on the only map he's posted...).

Tom French seems to think it's more than an aesthetic map. He was quick to correct the other dev who hadn't played it. So... yeah; I'm siding with Tom French.
