First off, let me say thank you 343 for bringing in textures for Forge blocks (only primitives currently). Maps will look better! But there is a problem with them. You have completely eliminated the "plain" original texture that was on the primitive blocks. The "Metal" texture is now the default for primitives, which makes the "Matte/Metallic" options affect the blocks harder. Some maps use a combination of both Structure pieces and Primitives next to each other to make maps look better, or because certain size blocks aren't in the primitives. Again, thank you for the texture pieces, but please fix this. Add back in the original 'plain" texture as the standard default option. Atleast 2 of my maps have a mix of walls and primitives to make them. With "Metal" being the new default texture, it messes with the coloring of objects.
They do need to add back plain texture but. It's nothing we can't handle until they do get to it. --- Double Post Merged, May 12, 2016 --- Sad thing is when they do get to it. Those that are using metal texture purposely will now get the plain texture. In the future update if they do change it. Right plain would be default again and metal would bot. But metal is right now.
That is what I thought. The blocks look so much better from what I have seen. People just need to experiment.
Can't wait to hop into forge and check it out for myself just got to get creative! Community has put out awesome maps before this update only means this update will make them even better.
If the plain texture was a metal, then when they updated it, they added way too much shine to it. One of my maps was Japanese themed, and it really messed with the looks of the pillars against the blocks and the roofing to one of the buildings. I've gone in and changed them, but I think they could've just added the textures and left the original there, too.
It should, but I have objects that are in structures for the roofing (for that shingle effect), and structure pieces don't have textures yet.
Well, I use the Stairs turned sideways to mimic the shingles. Flat pieces, just break the look and feel.
