TimeDipper submitted a new map: Block Pit - What if you combined...Lego + The Pit (H3)? Read more about this map...
This is so cool, i hope you take the time to add weapons and make it a more complete map. How much budget is left? The concept is just so funny and done very well from the overview. I will have to download and check it out in-game.
Thanks for the comment. I am roughly 50 from maximum budget, had to redesign a couple times to keep under. Those cylinders are killer. There is enough to do weapon placement but I haven't decided if the weapon set from H3 was appropriate for H5 as there are many power weapons and its a fairly small map. The lighting could also stand to be optimized a bit as unfortunately I am getting all kinds of shades of grey.
Looks great. I don't know why, but it took me way to long to figure out this is a remake of The Pit. I love the idea of it and with these kind of maps were made more often. My only issue is that when I think of Legos, I think of the generic colors, red, blue, green, yellow. Now I know this is a remake and you wanted to keep the colors as close to the original, but I think you should just make a second map of this with random colors, for no other reason but to satisfy me....
I disagree Dino. I always built with the matching colors with my lego's and I love the classic look of the Pit with the right colors for this version. It would be neat if he made a separate one with red/blue blocks on their proper sides in random spots for those who aren't as OCD as I.... lol This map looks great though if the scaling is correct which most of the map remakes these days seem to get wrong.
I respect your opinion, just so I'm clear before proceeding. I guess what I meant was to make it look more childish, like a child built it. As a kid, I usually tried to match all the bricks as well, and maybe the creator still should. Maybe they do as you suggested and have the red/blue sides, but green, with a few yellow bricks in the mix to make it look like they ran out of green. Or other random colors...
The scaling is not 100% accurate as I was limited with the dimensions of the blocks. I wanted to make the blocks to scale while not maxing the budget. Therefore had to make the 4x2 blocks a certain size which means the smallest pieces 1x1 were still rather large. While the scaling isn't 100% accurate, considering the limitations I still ended up with a rather accurate scale.
My original intent was to do the map with only traditional colors. After completing the majority of the map, I realized it became hard to identify the maps layout. It was also very hard on the eyes. For me the Yellow/Green/Grey have always been part of the identity for The Pit. However, with a bit of planning I hope to make a more "childish" version in the near future.

You did an outstanding job mixing the colors up. They both look great and the multicolored version is done tastefully!
