There's a big problem with the lighting in Forge right now and it's driving me insane.

This thing was present since the launch of Forge and I can't believe it was overlooked. Essentially what happens is when your lightmap goes over 100%, you'll randomly see grid-like lighting artificats on several objects. This only occurs when you have light bake enabled on said blocks. I haven't seen it on trees, weapons, vehicles, etc.

The most interesting part is that said waffling changes its position on blocks, and sometimes doesn't appear at all. Very confused.

If anyone knows how to get rid of waffling, let me know. Thanks!

You have to lower your lightmap, that's about it. If I had time, I'd go in-depth on how to easily do it without removing the style of your map, hopefully someone else can explain it.

You can also turn some lights to dynamic.

Going over 100% on light map causes a couple of weird issues. Try to lower it back below 100%. Turn light bake off on objects that are significantly exposed to sunlight or are out of sight/individual objects (not parts of base geometry.) Try to leave walls and floors as well as other base geometry features with light bake since mixing and matching walls with light bake and no light bake doesn't usually work.

That being said, this sounds graphically interesting, as I don't think I have witnessed Exactly what you are talking about when I've exceeded alight map budget. Would you mind posting a screenshot of your dilemma?

Turn light bake off and do lighting your self.

I've never noticed any relationship between the light map usage and waffling. It seems to be caused by having too many baked lights in the map.

I'm not convinced this was overlooked. Going over the light map budget just comes with issues. They could have avoided this by having a hard limit on the budget instead, but thankfully did not.

    Baked lights? Like artificial lights?

Lights have two settings, Baked and Dynamic

Baked Lights make shadows that 'bake' on the map and the light is visible from any distance, uses light map budget.

Dynamic lights do not produce shadows and appear through walls. The light disappears from a certain distance and uses performance, but no light map budget.

    Agreed.
I saw too that overlapping dynamic lights also causes problems

Changing lights to dynamic seems to have fixed it. Interesting.

I was in Caustic Kirbys forge session around 2 weeks ago. No waffling...until you baked the lights. Then this gawd-awful bs happened on various walls and ceilings:
