I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices this nor am I trying to single anyone out or complain. However I find it annoying and almost unfair to some people when certain maps on here have about 4-9 Map Updates that are very small that people create just to get their map at the top of the feed. I don't want to rant on about it but it would be nice if you were limited to how many times your map moves back up to the top of the feed based on Map Updates. Its manipulating the system in my opinion.
Maybe a certain minimum of Valid changes required to be considered a map update post. Maybe like a list of 5 valid changes instead of just "bump." ?
Maybe but you could then create 5 bs changes like, "Added 2 barrels on left, one crate on right, a light at mid, etc..."
I'm just gonna say I liked the old method better. Comments on your map used to get it bumped to the top of the list. It's kinda hard to just let your work get buried by other maps within a day of you posting it. More popular maps should stay where people can see they are being discussed so they can contribute to the discussion. After a map gets to page 2 its basically dead on DL's and comments so what other choice do people have?
I agree with you on using the old method of comments bringing the map back up. And I do agree that once its taken to page 2 its done with, however I don't think spamming meaningless updates is the correct way to get your map noticed or seen. It's just kind of annoying when you post a map then it gets buried by older maps with insignificant updates. I'm not trying to rant or cry about it I just don't think its fair personally. --- Double Post Merged, May 2, 2016 --- Maybe "NEW" Maps should have priority and stay at the top followed by any maps with updates?
I understand where you're coming from, but honestly it's not that big of a deal. If someone wants to bump their map, let em. A lot of stuff does get buried.
Ever sort a Folder by "Date Last Modified?" That's how the map forum works. When a map is updated, a necessary change has almost always been made. I would want people to know that I have addressed an issue or refined the map, whether it was a minor change or a major one. Updates are sometimes the only way a map that was buried the first time can be seen. It's a much less offensive way to bump a map than to spam the thread with comments. We may however look into limiting the amount of updates a map can receive in a day or week, so as to not clog the map page.
Yeah I get your point but I don't mind it really if a I see a map a few times with some important changes, however, if I see a map 9 times in 5 days with slight changes it's becoming ridiculous. I usually change stuff or add gametypes without an update. I know I'm not there yet so why bump mediocre maps that nobody saw in the first place. I do believe it's kinda sad if you bump the **** out of your map just to get to the first page again. But yeah, what makes an update valid?
I completely understand it's the only way for maps to be seen after they've been buried but does that then mean every map has to go through updates just to be seen? More importantly I'm talking about people misusing updates. I've seen a few maps that "updated download link" 2-4 times. Shouldn't adding the download link be one update lol?
Most times, I believe that this particular phenomena is not an attempt to bump the map. There seems to be a glitch that prevents certain maps from being updated via the 'Map Update' option. I've noticed a few maps where people have attempted to updated the download link on their map, tested it and realized it didn't work, and then tried updating again. I'm not sure what's causing this issue, but like I said, I don't think it's intentional bumping in that particular scenario. Regardless of that, I totally know what you're getting at. I'm not sure we'll come up with a perfect solution that everyone will be happy with. Thanks for mentioning it though, we'll discuss it as a staff and see if there's room for improvement.
