Would it be smart to turn every objects light bake off to decrease light map or is this not advised? I'm at 500 objects but light map is already 85%. If not what tips do you guys have for decreasing light map without ruining a map?
Yeah I've already done that. At the rate I'm going I'll be around 160% lightmap when I'm done, possibly higher.
As long as there aren't any visible lighting problems (lights not showing up at some points, random really dark pieces) going over the lightmap percentage isn't a huge deal.
I have two maps that are over 200% lightmap and have no issues at all. Reckoning and Blade both have at least that, and another that I'm working on has about 150%. Until it starts affecting FPS or you see waffling, don't worry about it. --- Double Post Merged, Apr 30, 2016 --- Having light bake on on some objects and off on others will cause visual issues. Walls and floors will seem too bright/too dark. Either on or off, man
Alright awesome. So basically you would suggest to have light bake either "on" for everything or "off"? I know you can go over the budget I just don't like seeing a really high light map it worries me haha
Yeah I'm not too sure really, I'm working on a map and I turned some off and some of the white becomes black and the overal look is just meh. I think I will turn it all on again tonight. I was always struggling not to hit 100% but now seeing several posts it's not that bad so maybe you should just build till it's done and then decide what to turn off.
Yeah I think I'm just going to switch every objects light bake to "on" then when I finish see what needs to change if there are any problems
Yeah I just did that and already at163% But it looks way better this way. Probably the best way to do it, just build and worry about lichtmap later.
