    Creative Force Retrospective (4/8/2016)
    Hey everyone!

In case you haven't heard of us, Creative Force is a group of aspiring content creators looking to set a new standard for the development of multiplayer levels in Forge. We take pride in the community we're a part of and the things that we and it have accomplished since the initial release of Forge with Halo 3. Some of us have been around, both active and lurking, in the community since the earliest days, when Forge Hub was a blog rather than a Forum, others have weaved in and out, and others still are new to Forge with Halo 5. If you would like to learn more about how we came together, this is the thread announcing our formation.

To ensure that we meet the standard of quality we would like to hold ourselves to, we have created and adapted tools to use in the creation of content and processes for content to go through on its way to completion. We strive to be as organized as possible and are in almost constant contact so that we can quickly react to any information that may come available to us. We develop within a loose variation of Scrum, producing and iterating content in Sprints, while also brainstorming and prototyping concept pools to pull from in the future.

Thus far, our members have created 8 levels that have been
accepted into Halo 5 Matchmaking by 343i:

Absolute | Highrise | Pylon | High Charity | Sandwich
Bloodsport | Frontier (Grifball) | Grif Temple

We also assisted with other content that has
made it in, most notably Underpass.

All of our Forge projects that have reached Beta or been Released can be viewed in our Release Thread on ForgeHub. Specific project threads/listings can be accessed via the hyperlinked images in the thread. The levels themselves can be bookmarked via the "CREATIVE F0RCE" Gamertag (that is a "zero" in F0RCE).

    Now, on to some news!

Our most recent round of publishing saw the full releases of Highrise and Absolute, two levels from the Breakout Playlist in Matchmaking, as well as Fragment (Absolute's sister level) and the Beta release of one of our 2v2 Submissions, Goliath. Check them out!

Absolute is designed specifically to support standard arena gametypes - Slayer, Capture the Flag, and Strongholds - as well as Breakout. It's the best of both worlds, featuring a familiar arena-style layout infused with the distinct feel of Breakout.

From its inception, Absolute was meant to be part of a pair of maps. Fragment, its sister map, is the broken remains of Absolute after it has crashed to the bottom of a ravine.

Creating Absolute and Fragment was a three step process. First, before either could be started, a whole new Breakout canvas needed to be created on Glacier. Absolute was then made on that Glacier canvas with inverse symmetry suited to Capture the Flag and Breakout. After that, drastic alterations turned Absolute into Fragment, an asymmetric arena. Development was tricky, as changes in one map often meant going back to adjust the other to fit.

Fragment is an asymmetrical map created using the theme of a collapsed and broken Breakout arena. There are uneven platforms and open flames. Giant portions of rock have crashed through sections of the map. Broken floors even give access to the substructure.

This map was designed with a bit more thought towards non-Breakout players. Breakout is designed to be very competitive, which can be intimidating to some players, putting them off after a first impression. This map is made to offer a more comfortable experience with a little more breathing room than maps like Crossfire or Trench. My goal was to make Breakout more accessible this way. At least for one map, I feel like it's good for beginners. It helped me appreciate Breakout a lot more, so I hope it does the same for others as well.

    Goliath
    2v2-4v4 Core
Created in collaboration by: Black Picture and Blaze Lightcap
    (Current Version: 1.0.0)

I knew I wanted to revisit Goliath as it was a tested and polished design in MCC that was generally well received. It even received a feature on Ducain23’s YouTube channel. Though it had some fans there was much to be desired in the design due to the limitation of forge and especially H2A, so I had a few things I mind about what I wanted to do.

For starters, I wanted to accommodate more versatile playability, allowing for both the intended 2v2 gameplay but 4v4 and better FFAs.

As original design choice was to have a single atrium with surrounding corridors. In the remake I wanted to keep the pathing while opening up the bases and making them more interesting for combat as well as interact with the top floor without making the push to a higher level or into the central atrium.

Vertical interacts were a main focus too. Goliath is a very tall map. I needed to make sure that engagements were at comfortable angles and your field of view wasn't limited when interacting with levels above or below you. The segmentation needed to allow the lower floors to not only provide a place to recover but hold equal incentive, allow for unique pushes and interesting engagements.”

    In other news…

A while ago, our very own Black Picture figured out a neat trick with decals and lighting to create some pretty cool effects, which you may have seen. This was featured on Forge Labs, ForgeHub (<3), and reddit. As an update on this trick, we are sad to say that this trick doesn't always function as it did previously, due to forge fixes in the “Ghosts of Meridian” update. Specifically, Decals now block bullets in some instances. Based on 343's reaction to the publication of the trick, we expect this to be remedied, but have not received confirmation.

Another member of our group, Sn1p3r C, has been working very hard with scripts to make an almost fully working Infection variant to hold you over until the full release. You can see some screens of it in an Imgur Album and once it’s done, you’ll be able to play it.

That’ll do it for this 2-week sprint. We’ll be here on Forgehub and reddit monitoring stuff as usual. Any comments or concerns that you have, feedback on the betas mentioned above, or anything else in general, please comment down below. We plan to have these updates out often, coinciding with the end of our sprints. Originally, our sprints were 2 weeks long; we have since moved to a more flexible schedule of mixed soft and hard deadlines for production and publishing so that we can balance our daily lives with working as a part of Creative Force.

We have been recieving reports that it has not been working due to fixes in the update. Some instances may work based on luck, but few do.

Current version of Goliath is called "Goliath MM" and is in my files. Good post man. Hit me up with the link to the updated photos so that I can fix up the thread. :)
