Anyone know of any other maps that get anywhere near as much depth out of one atrium as Aerowalk? I've been trying to design a one atrium 1v1 and it is unreal how difficult it is for me to make interesting connections without at least two atriums.
I have scrapped like 5 maps now because of lighting. I should be able to make a map well within the budget look okay, shouldn't I? Doesn't seem like too much to ask for. If you read my original post you will also see that half of my frustration is the game itself. It's atrocious. BUT, I guess having an opinion based in facts is just "negative" of me. I ****ing hate this community. (sometimes)
I don't think it is the forge really. I think the game is just not that enjoyable because of the sandbox and many reasons that video states as well as other videos Lemon has made. People have been saying what their issues are so your point doesn't make any sense there just go luck at Given to Fly's thread and the discussion in that. The problem is people not wanting better and just accepting ****. This is the worst attitude you can have about games. It is the type of attitude that kills the gaming industry. Because you lose people who actually care about a fair experience. On the subject of forge. Lighting kills what a lot of people like about forge because you make a good looking map and then it gets trashed by the lighting and it is frustrating and time consuming to fix. Of course it is hobby but people want to be able to make their map and not spend hours trying to fix issues that shouldn't be issues. It makes the hobby more time consuming than it should be. Of course people will find other problems to ***** about that is life. It's sad when I see the people who I played games with would rather go play off host CE on MCC or even worse Destiny. He didn't even say anything that negative. He just said he was quitting forge and someone had to make a comment about it being negative. He already got heckled. It was not needed and made me type this long post because I am sick of people, who cannot even make a good argument in support of the game continue to call out people who make good arguments against it. RANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --- Double Post Merged, Apr 3, 2016 --- Well look at how aerowalk does salot through disconnect and replacement of ramps with lifts and tele's. The map doesn't have to just have hallways around the side. The best method is to come up with unique smaller rooms like aerowalk. That act as spawn hubs and force the player through the middle. Hope that helps.
Even so, deleting your maps because of your own frustration with it is a premature act. If it plays well then please pass it off to the community to someone who may not get as frustrated with the system, or who may get lucky and find a solution. I hear that you hate this community, but for those of us who do actually enjoy your work it is painful to actually hear that you deleted your map. I'm going to scour some fileshares hoping that @purely fat @WARHOLIC @Sethiroth or somebody saved the map by accident while flying around in forge. I'd take a map that plays well over something that is perfectly lit any day. If I have to I'll go re-block it out from the pictures. I just saved all the pictures of the map on my computer and the video of your walkthrough in case you decide to delete those as well @Xandrith . I'm not trying to rag on you, I'm just expressing that I was really enjoying what you made and having you take it away from myself and everyone else that enjoyed it feels like an unnecessary act of frustration.
Ask purely or given, this isn't anything new. The only thing different is that I have "officially" announced my retirement. I'm sorry you liked the map, but I wasn't happy with it, so I deleted it. It's just what I do.
WTF are you guys talking about? I was further commenting on Ace's post about negativity surrounding the forum not Xandrith's post. I didn't see a connection to what Ace said and what Xandrith said. I agree Xandrith should quit if he's not enjoying the game. Will I miss his maps? Yes, am I gonna make a post saying he's bitching? No. I am talking about the community as a whole. I am surprised that as a community our view on forge as took a 180 in the past few weeks. So relax guys I'm not calling anyone out. Although I'm sure it would have made for some good drama.
Well it seemed aces comment was directed towards him. So let me apologize. I just get frustrated by the **** I have seen posted by this game. Please forgive me.
Well I hope you stop doing that. It is seriously painful when scrapped projects get deleted instead of passed on. I get the frustration, but deleting stuff that could have value to the community or yourself in the future is a little overboard. I wish you the best of luck with your retirement. And it sucks that you aren't enjoying the base game. I'm definitely enjoying the base game more than I ever have. I have been playing since CE, but I have a different preference and I have no explanation for it, just that I find it more fun and I'll call that good enough for me. And thanks man I'll take a look.
Yeah, I assumed it was because of that being the closest thing to negativity in the thread and Xandrith's response.
I have the map saved in my files. I know that Xandrith deletes about 95% of the maps he builds, lol, so I usually save them. I don't think it would be right to finish and release his map without his permission though. I gave up on enjoying Halo years ago. It's the main reason I forge actually, because given the choice of playing a great Halo game or using a great forge, I'd choose to play the game. I haven't really had to make that choice, because I haven't enjoyed any of the Halo games that have had forge (Aside from MCC, where I definitely spent more time playing than forging). Anyway, everyone is allowed to like or dislike anything - they're allowed to tell people about it or keep silent. It's not that serious.
In my mind I have always considered Halo 3 the last real Halo. I was disappointed in Reach but still played, disappointed in H4 but still played. I came into H5 saying to myself "This is not halo view it as a different game" And I have thoroughly enjoyed it since release. That goes for forge and matchmaking. I learned if I view it as a different game not part of the Halo franchise then I can't be disappointed. Works for me.
Lighting is my favorite aspect of this new Forge. It's a real challenge and requires a tremendous understanding to manipulate, especially with all of the bugs. I wish I was at the point where the only thing I could be pissed about was lighting. I'd rather wrack my head against that than design problems. If I had a finished map with lighting problems, I'd sooner rebuild it than scrap it, but either way it's not something to lose my head over because lighting issues can and will be fixed. If rebuilding is too much work then just take a break from Forge until they're fixed. I'm basically the same as @Xandrith. If i build something and end up disliking it, it's either going back on the drawing board until I know what to do with it, or it's being deleted. I don't think it should be owed to the community to be finished since I'm not making it for them. Ya I don't give a **** about Halo anymore, especially with the direction the series is going. Forge is fun and that's it.
Might as well throw in my two cents about this whole direction of Halo nonsense Within 2 years, I think Halo 5 will behind H3 and in front of Reach in terms of forge creations + customs. Just me maybe, but at least I'm optimistic about it. The community is bigger than a lot of people realize, and this game has some good f*ckin potential. I personally love the game, and I want to make sweet love this forge. Hands down the best one since 3.
It wasn't just at Xandrith, just everyone in general. Xandrith just happened to be the last one to do I before I posted. Seriously, we all get that there's still some bugs with forge and some people don't enjoy playing the actual game, but this is What Are You Working On, not What Aren't You Working On. I personally very much enjoy playing this game. I've played matchmaking more often in this game than other halos, because I actually enjoy something other than customs in this game. So complain about the game all you want, but there are other threads for that.
Since the first WAYWO in the MLG forums, it has always been an off topic discussion thread as well. Mainly due to the general lack of activity in the sub forum. Every other iteration of WAYWO, including Halocouncil and Beyond, have been treated the same. So, I'm assuming this applies to Forgehub as well. Negativity, and complaining about negativity, is perfectly fine. I understand why you would want to vent your frustrations after the game hasn't met your expectations, and I get why you don't want to come into the thread and hearing about how unhappy people are with forge and Halo all the time.
