I've been brainstorming a lot about future projects recently, and I've got a lot ideas coming down the pipe. I'm a bit of a music nerd, so one thing I wanted to do down the road is make a series of maps that draw inspiration from classic song or album titles...This is kind of a silly idea, obviously, but if anyone has an idea they'd like to throw out there, it could be good fun. I came up with the first map here a while ago, and I'm likely gonna call another map I'm almost finished with "Space Oddity", so that's what started the idea to make this into a series...Here's what I've got so far: 'Needler and the DMG done" - Based on the Neil Young song: A 1v1 map set in a concert hall that features the Needler as the main power weapon. I do't have an image to share, but I've built a very basic mock up of this with rows of seats, balconies, a stage and some curtains so far. Right now it has a Needler on a weapon pad at the center of the stage, and a low-ammo Halo CE pistol in the balcony. I'll probably keep weapon pickups limited otherwise, as I'd like those to function as the power weapons...I've never done a 1v1 map before so this will be my first attempt. "Castles Made of Sand" - Based on the Jimi Hendrix song: Pretty simple idea so far, but this would be medieval style castle ruins set on the beach in Alpine. "Zeppelin II" (any Led Zeppelin track works as a title): This one would be a Hindenburg style airship built on the Parallax skyward canvas. The map could allow you to play inside the ship itself, and possibly you could take a gravity lift or man cannon up to the top of the blimp structure. It could also be some sort of more simple dogfighting map. "Dark Side of the Moon" A low hanging fruit - but this could be a heavily terrain-based Parallax map set in total darkness. There could be some cool scripting added to turn on and off lights for brief periods of time that would allow you to spot the enemy team. Maybe every time you pick up a weapon, it activates a spotlight that exposes you to the other team for a period of time? Or maybe the map would start out almost completely black and then lights would turn on as players enter or interact with certain areas. After a few minutes the entire map would then be illuminated. Anyone else have ideas? These are all tounge-in-cheek concepts, so no need to keep things serious here...
I'm not gonna post because I would go wayyyy overboard. EDIT: Actually, I'm not gonna be a douche. I'll suggest one song. The sound of silence by simon and garfunkel. I'm sure you have all heard the original, so I'll post this cover I like a lot. If you listen to the lyrics, you could easily create a spooky or mysterious infection map out of it
That's pretty cool, I didn't know that. Interesting, I've never heard that version....You could probably make an infection map just based on the setting of that video --- Double Post Merged, Mar 29, 2016 --- Hmm...Maybe that could be a covenant one with a Banshee and a Needler?
Damn man, you took that one from concept to reality pretty fast Seriously though, I'm traveling at the moment but I'll give this one a try when I get back home. It seems really cool from what I can see so far....I LOVE the look of this thing. Way to beat me to the punch.
Everyone read this thread and thought "you know, there's a joke there, but I have self respect." But no, not you.
It would be tricky to properly do a Highway to Hell map because you could only use three objects, repeated over and over and over again...
@Xandrith I dislike disturb, but they ****ing kill that cover. One of the better covers I have heard in a while. Green River CCR
Maserati - "This Is A Sight We Had One Day From The High Mountain" or the classic R.E.M - "It's The End Of The World As We Know it"
Nicely done, that one ties in really well. I haven't listened to this band before but this track sounds pretty cool. Reminds me a tiny bit of the Secret Machines, but without vocals. You ever get into them? This thread is making me wish we could import our own sound files into Forge. That could lead to some pretty cool stuff beyond just entertaining ourselves with epic backing tracks
The map would be a little foggy, be set in medieval England, have a dungeon and the center of the map would be the gallows.
