A lot of people have been complaining about the recent Cartographer tasks being kept secret. Well... https://twitter.com/ForgeHub/status/706577563628363776 https://twitter.com/ForgeHub/status/704433712742551552 https://twitter.com/ForgeHub/status/703281578458402817 https://twitter.com/WARH0LIC/status/703280705535647744 Just to name a few... I don't want this blowing up into a "Community Cartographers 2.0" thread. Only making a point. Mods and admins: the moment this gets out of hand, please lock the thread.
1: No one said anything about griffball not being announced 2: only 2 out of 4 of the tweets mention BTB 3: those tweets were from Feb 26th and the cutoff were the first days of March. 4: Colson and other forgers were told at LEAST a month before the deadline. I know this because I heard from several of the BTB forgers themselves 5: Two tweets, IS NOT sharing the info with the community anymore than posting it once in the shoutbox. That's an awful median of communication instead of using..I dunno. A halo forum? You're only burying yourself deeper.
-Claims there were never announcements. -Sees announcements. -Claims it's not good enough. .....ok....
Link me to a post where someone said griffball wasn't announced. You can't. Do you want me to link you to the 15+ that didn't know about breakout btb and doubles? If the CC's wrote the announcement on the back of a fortune cookie paper, put it in the bottle, and then thrown into the ocean, would that be a fair announcement? I'm willing to bet 99.9% of people registered on this website don't follow forgehub on twitter, probably even less on OTHER community forums. The respective BTB tweets have 10 favorites and 13. I've gotten more retweets on a picture of my cat. This isn't even a discussion. If a majority of the forge community says they didn't know, then they didn't know. It's not up to forgers to constantly hunt through every possible media outlet everyday for the POSSIBILITY of some crazy new announcement. It's the CC's job to make sure we know.
I agree with you except for the last sentence. There are most likely times that CCs aren't allowed to share info with us. In the cases that they don't when they're allowed to, yeah that's ****ed up.
The only reason I posted this is because you said: "There was never announcements for any of them. I check forgehub, forge.world, beyond, r/halo, waypoint, YouTube, all at least 15 times a day. I get on Xbox almost every day. I talk to forgers almost every day. By the time I heard they were looking for maps it was only a week or two until the deadline and was told through the grapevine." Key words there are "any of them". I'm simply pointing out the fact that announcements did in fact exist to some capacity. Could it have been announced better? of course. I'm still of the opinion that things shouldn't be announced at all. The point of the Cartographers is to cherry pick the best content for given tasks when the time arises. Making wide announcements means that a lot of people are going to stop their current projects and focus on forging something with the sole intention of getting it into matchmaking, interrupting the natural evolution of maps within the community. It also means that there's a chance that a lot of people still won't know about it, regardless of how widespread the announcement is. In both cases, people are going to get upset when they either don't hear about the task, or the maps they built to get in matchmaking don't get in. Leaks and CC announcements simply don't work, and the system itself needs to change. We all know this. However, if this sort of thing was announced by 343 directly, it would be a different story. I have a few ideas for a new system that are up for a civil discussion, if anyone is interested: I think there should be a list that shows how many maps of certain types have been looked at by the Cartographers and are considered matchmaking ready. Every month, this list will be updated with new numbers. This way, people can monitor the numbers, see the trends, and cater their forging to them if they wish. 343 would then tell the entire community that they're looking for maps of a certain type. The Cartographers will then pull maps from this existing list, and work with the authors if small changes are needed. This would happen in a short time frame, eliminating the possibility of a select few building maps specifically to get into Matchmaking. Everyone hears about the task, everyone can see the trends of maps being looked at, the Cartographers don't have to break any NDAs, and the best content can be picked and integrated into Matchmaking. Of course, all of this is an ideal system, and would require an overhaul of the current system and a larger workforce to keep everything running smoothly. Hopefully things will change for the better soon. --- Double Post Merged, Mar 28, 2016 --- You started this war, and you obviously are fueled by some negative personal feelings toward the CCs. I want to bring the conversation back to a civilized discussion about how we can fix the SYSTEM that currently determines what maps get into Matchmaking. If all you can do is come in here and criticize individuals, throw insults, make baseless accusation and assumptions, and start more ****, then you are NOT welcome. Let's keep this civil and try to find a solution the benefits the community at large, shall we?
The CC's are often under NDA to not disclose information about upcoming tasks. In this case, it is actually their job NOT to let people know about what maps they are looking for. Whether this is the best process for finding maps or not, they could get in a lot of trouble with 343i for breaking NDA. I can understand wanting transparency, but keep in mind it is 343i's decision whether or not things get to be fully transparent, not the CC's. As for some people knowing about the tasks early, leaks happen. It would be impossible to keep each task 100% under the radar for months while the group is looking for specific types of maps, especially when said maps need to be repeatedly tested to make sure they are ready for Matchmaking. The CC's aren't telling a select group that they should forge maps specifically for Matchmaking, they are finding people who are already working on maps that fit the task and are helping to ensure quality. Once again, I can't say for sure that this is the best process, but if told to find good maps of a certain type within a time frame and that you are not allowed to tell people that the company is looking for these types of maps, I don't think it is a bad process. It produced a list of pretty good maps for the BTB playlist this time around. Edit: Also, people, please, can we keep the tone professional? Name calling and flaming gets us nowhere. Leave personal slights and attacks on others at the door.
My thread thread was locked for a reason, so I'll be frank. If it weren't for my thread, everything would be the same. The CC's would continue to bullshit us. We would not be getting new CC's. We would not be having this discussion at all. Would you have started a thread? I don't think so. Would you have posted this thread? Nope. You are simply riding on the wind of change which I started. I'm not pointing this out for my own benefit, but to expose the fact that you are fruitless member of this community who only comes out of the woodwork when you have the chance of being a colossal asshole. You didn't care that the system was broken. You were well off firmly planted on the lap of Psychoduck, but you act as I am the one out of line. To put this all simply, you can retreat back into the crevices of stigma. The big boys are done talking.
