So you thought you couldn't place water on your maps? You would have been correct until just recently. A new forging technique involving Decals and Lights has been revealed by the Creative Force forge team, which allows forgers to do some pretty wild stuff. With this technique, you can make water, lava, ice, acid pits, and potentially numerous other realistic looking effects. The technique can also be applied to emblems to change their color.

Here are some videos explaining the technique, demonstrating how it works, and showing it in action:
Note - A recent update eliminated the shifting of decals which is mentioned in this first video, so the method shown to counteract that shifting is no longer necessary.

Here are some images of what can be done:

When @black picture first showed me this technique that he accidentally discovered a few weeks ago that you could change decal colorization, my mind was blown. I'm more than appreciative of the amount of work the team put into fleshing out the trick as much as possible but a few people can only go so far and I'm REALLY excited to see the crazy things that people come up with. I still jaw drop at some of the crazier ideas and this trick will bring a ton of maps to life. Seeing Virgil on urban maps, seeing varied graffiti, having animated signs for navigation, of course believable and functional water, I can't begin to explain how anxious I am to see this effect used by some of the top notch forgers out there.

Huge bow to the team and the work they put into this. I'm infinitely proud of them. ;)

So you said to have the dark side of the decal face outwards, but on glacier I can't tell the difference between the sides, so my question being: "when in forge having the decal selected, one side turns completely solid yellow, which side is that? The side you want facing out or towards the block?

@Given To Fly Captain punch answered your question over here but for others that missed it, you want the yellow highlight side to face the light source. Look forward to what you do with it Given!

@Soldat Du Chene Yeah, the decals are rather small, so you end up needing a lot of objects to cover big ground.

I'm having an issue with colorizing decals. I had them working in forge, but once I go into custom games they just turn white, and oddly, once they turn white in customs, I load up forge and they are white there to. Only way I get them to work is by flipping them in a 360 motion, but then the cycle just repeats itself. Can someone help?

Which decal pieces are you using? This trick seems to only work for certain decals, and not others.

      Currently I am using:
      Warzone 16x16,
      UNSC Star 12x16,
      UNSC Skull 8x10,
      Strongholds 16x16

As I said, these work in forge until I load up a custom games. Then it just turns white. I thought this was an issue with the white lights I had in front of the decals, however, even when I take them away, it's still the same, just with a very ugly pixelated light around the decals XD
PS: If the quotes don't work properly, sorry I haven't used Threads in years DX
