Celeste is a symmetrical 4v4 arena map. A secret military stronghold, accessible only by Pelican, is buried deep in an icy crevasse. What im going for with Celeste is to have lots of sight lines, lots of levels and differences in height, and balance. So anywhere you have great cover there is also a great nade-bank that can be used to root you out. I want to keep players moving and on the offensive, reward folks who take the time to learn all the jumps and tricks, and of course make it fun. I also tried to step up my aesthetic game with this one, however right now I'm dealing with crippling lighting and frame issues. At the moment the frames are ok but it's dark and contrast-y as hell. Currently Celeste supports slayer, strongholds, and FFA. CTF should be up and running soon. Any and all feedback as well as lighting ideas would be very much appreciated. In order to get some better feed back on this I would suggest playing it a bit more, but as far as the last game went I dont think it was half bad. Lots of the fighting seemed to be focused around the Pelican bridge to the middle of the map, which is probably ideal. I felt like i was the only one using the lift to get to the middle of the map using the lifts though and suggest finding a way to get more traffic through them. I also found that some of the drop down where miss leading and would suggest some how finding a way to either keep players on the map at the wrong one or display it as a hazard. Overall great feeling map for your first 4v4, I hope to see and test out the final product at another Forged Friday!
Great feedback max and fun lobby. I had some more tests tonight in duke of mearl's lobby and since then have made a ton of changes and I've got a bunch more so will def want to test again this Friday. Let me know where to find the list of maps we tried Friday and I'll be sure to leave my feedback.
Had fun playing on this map, though it was a little hard getting a sense of where I was at any given time. It has a super-interesting design, as I died repeatedly because I was just standing looking around. There were a few times where I either fell or jumped and wasn't sure if it was safe to do so, but that might just be because I was new to the map. Overall a fun time, with some tweaking I can see a great map in the making.
Thanks for the feedback. I did start to make some changes to both help orient players- one suggestion I had was actually to use a bit less color to make structures easier to understand- and make the dangerous edges more obvious. If people continue to die in droves by falling over edges i will start to block some of them off. If you are around for Max's lobby friday I'd love to have you give it another go, also I need a few more chances to kill you since you were dogging me all night
name change imminent --- Double Post Merged, Mar 17, 2016 --- this map is going into hibernation. i made the aesthetic and then tried to shove a map in there. i think there are some cool structures and things i will use once we get the pre-fab option. for now, she sleeps.
