I've been creating custom forge maps and playing in custom game lobbies for years, and I want to bring more attention to the Major Problems that are negatively impacting the Custom Games scene. In no particular order, here they are: 1. Fireteam size allows for more than 16 players, but you can't start with more than 16. Even if you have it on Invite Only, people can still invite their friends and make this very difficult for the host, requiring him to Kick players from the game. This has never been a problem in previous Halo games. 2. We need a Maximum Party size option, like we always had. I should be able to set my lobby to a limit of 10 players if I want. 3. Add Privacy Options for Open, and Closed. Open would allow Followers and Recent Players to join without an invite. Closed would prevent new players altogether. 4. Make it so that Fireteam Chat works in the menu. Try getting players on certain teams in a 16 player lobby sometime. 5. FIXED 4/6/16 - After playing a FFA game the players (other than the host) can't see or switch teams. The host has to turn Teams On/Off as a workaround. 6. FIXED 4/6/16 - Bookmarked Custom Game modes won't load unless the exact base game mode is loaded first. I get messages almost everyday from followers experiencing this issue. 343 is fully aware (I know from watching Livestreams), and they haven't done anything about it. 7. Party Leader cannot Boot players mid-game. 8. The ability to Change Teams mid-game was added without the option to disable that feature. Ideally, the Party Leader could Enable/Disable this feature mid-game. Starting a match you usually wouldn't want that to be on, but if teams become uneven mid-game then you would want it on. 9. Party Leader should be able to change the Privacy (Friends/Invite Only) mid-game. I'm pretty sure we used to be able to do this. 10. Party Leader should be able to promote someone else as the leader mid-game. 11. When using game chat, you should be able to see who's talking, without pulling up the scoreboard. Had to get that out of my system. Please Like/Comment in hopes that 343 sees this and does something about it. If a certain issue is driving you crazy, then please mention which number it is. If I missed something (major), then please comment about it. Halo Waypoint Post
Liking this thread is mandatory. Punishment for noncompliance is having to play Doubles as my teammate for a week.
Nice list Turb... everything I completely agree with. The only thing I think they can't do is the chat in the lobby. I can't remember 100%, but I'm pretty sure that isn't there because of Dedicated Servers and the Cloud. Again I'm not sure why, but I do remember them saying there was a reason. But anyways, I completely agree with your list. All those things need to be added. Also, the ability for the lobby leader to force player team colors would be nice. I have been wanting that forever...lol
Yeah game chat seems to be hosted on dedicated servers, so I think the problem is that they don't connect you to a dedicated server until you start the game. I get that it may be near impossible to implement at this point, but at the same time we need to make it clear that a system that works this way isn't acceptable. We need to be able to communicate in game chat in the lobby menu, and there's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. They need to either provide game chat on a peer-to-peer connection in the menu, or make it so that we can chat via dedicated servers in the menu. Now that party chat allows for 16 players this isn't quite as big of a deal, but particularly in red vs blue situations it's much better to have the chat channels automatically split for the teams when the game starts.
Yeah, I'm fairly sick (really auto-correct? ****? I just taught you that word.) of people thinking there should be just one way of doing things. Did the xbone team really give devs only a peer to server option? Why not have p2p available just in case? Why can't interface builders put in several ways to get a job done to allow for people who think other ways? One potentially good thing about this situation is that our input might be effective since there seems to be some kind of connection between 343 and the xbone people. Microsoft might be interested in making sure Halo isn't seen as lacking, especially compared to previous Halos.
The bug with bookmarked game modes (#6) was fixed with the Ghosts of Meridian update! Anyone know if #5 was fixed?
I'm not familiar with soooo much of this stuff. Is the Xbox chat setting that lets you choose to hear it in both headphones and tv speakers new? Is it the game chat that can't go to both? I'm only now discovering that there's party chat and there's game chat. My ability to figure stuff out has definitely diminished in recent years so it's hard for me to tell, but does the xbone just not have all the features the 360 did? Are some things hard to find for you guys? Are there less explanations given to us and a greater need for them?
I'll give you an example for the game chat problem. You start up Halo 5, go to custom games, and invite a friend to your fireteam. If your friend joins your fireteam, then you are unable to communicate with them until you either start the game or send them a party invite. 343 decided to use dedicated servers for fireteam chat, but they don't assign us to a dedicated server until the game is started, so you can't communicate while in the menus. This was never a problem in previous Halo games, because game chat used peer-to-peer connections.
