Hello everyone. I was thinking about making map reviewing a bit easier by creating a "rubric" style guide for giving some feedback to other maps and listing off what to look out for possibly in different categories such as, the design, the spawn, the aesthetics, etc. I do not excel in all areas of forging and map building. My best topic in these categories I have listed below is probably aesthetics and maybe vehicles, but that is about it. Which is why I would like some help and some other forgers ideas and opinions on making a strong quick reference guide for what we all should keep in mind when reviewing or play testing each other's maps. I have listed below the categories I have in mind currently with a couple of examples in the forms of questions. (Format of the rubric still pending) Map Review Rubric Map Layout / Flow Are there options when it comes to moving around the map such as different routes? Are some areas of the map significantly used more than others? Objective Locations Do the objectives play well from there current areas? Do you think there might be a better place for them? Do they promote different routes through the map? Are they too easy to assault/ defend leaving the game a stalemate? Spawns Was there any instance of you spawning and facing a wall or some confusing location that lead to wasted time to orient yourself? If so what location? Were spawn killed in any area during the match? If so what location? Weapons / Power-ups Are the Power Weapons easy to find? Are the Power Weapons both placed an equal distance from both teams? Vehicles Do they maneuver through the map and terrain effectively/smoothly? Are they being used often when they are available? Aesthetics / Lighting Does any objects feel out of place with the map theme? Are any objects Z-fighting on the map that you noticed? If so, where at? (Picture if Possible)
It would be nice as a quick reference for reviews. There are a good amount of guides here: http://www.forgehub.com/threads/forge-guides-resources.148358/ that go in to great detail with Map Flow, Power Weapons, etc. I am going to read through them this week to gain some more insight and other point of views on what we all might want to look for in our maps while play-testing.
UPDATE: I have made been some more points to consider when play testing. Trying to keep it compact and easy to just quickly reference for those who are not as familiar with map design. I am trying to keep it between 5-10 points for each section.
