Though caves appear frequently in games, they are rarely used in first person shooters. I've seen plenty of maps with caves on them, but what about a map that takes place entirely underground? Do you think it would work? What could ruin the idea, or what would improve upon it?
If the design is good, the theme could pretty much be anything. So sure, it could be fun but don't invest too much time into the looks until it is a fun and polished design.
I had an old natural map design that I never got around to, most of it was underground tunnels but it also had ground above. I don't know why I said that. Ok bye.
I made a cave map (posted it on here) a while back, I haven't touched it in a while, and never had the chance to play test it, but I personally love them!
I don't know if I'll ever get around to it. I have a few other maps on my mind at the moment, so if anybody is interested to try, go for it.
ive got a map thats completely inside an asteroid. The only thing you really need to watch for with the halo 5 stuff is that you will need to save a lot of room for lighting. and im acutually about to make another map this week that is an underground cavern for big team battle
Working on a 2v2 map that is based on an underground forerunner structure that has been abandoned. Love the idea of cavernous maps.
Caves makes me think about classic NES/Sega adventure stuff like Zelda or Ys (I think it was called Ys). I wonder what adventure/RPG stuff might work in an FPS. Multi-step puzzles? Opening or closing doors? Altering the cave paths?
You can easily make a cave map on the current forge maps. Example: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/CAMO5324/video/15022505 But a official cave canvas would be a better
It's not impossible, but right now the lighting would be tough especially if it has any large areas. The lighting bug where placed lights disappear at a short distance make it pretty annoying to play on. If you keep it fairly limited on open spaces you could definitely pull it off. I had began working on a cave map a couple weeks back but it was set in one big area and it just didn't work out.
I was working on a cave map a while back like two weeks ago, hopefully I can continue working on it when this weekend comes around.
I'm just about finished with my Lazarus Pit map. Looking pretty good so far. I just hope the lighting doesn't crap out when it is actually played.
I think the idea of a zelda inspired map could work pretty well if executed correctly, I don't think I could pull it off myself though, to be honest. --- Double Post Merged, Feb 23, 2016 --- I think it's not so much of a problem when it comes to if a cave map would be fun to play, it really comes down to forge itself.
