I understand that there are plenty of testing lobbies during various times and days, but darn it if you don't just need that quick fix by a single person. I'd like to lend my services as a map reviewer for anyone who stops working on a map because of little or no feedback, among other reasons. Dude this is great. seriously its quite challenging getting forger feedback when you are new around here. So- I got one for ya. I have a map WIP called B11. The map is an asym, initially meant to be a 2v2 but got bigger so probably a 4v4. I wanted lots of verticality in there so the main areas of the map are high off the ground and there are lots of little stairs and landings. so all this aside I have the following issues: 1- since it was originally a 2v2 i fear the corridors may be too small, then I think there are enough paths that maybe its ok? 2-biggest issue. i made this huge asset as the top middle tower. its supposed to be a giant drill, the map is supposed to be like a drilling operation. anyway the "tree" as i call it got so big and intense i'm afraid it doesn't work in the map, its too big and the whole thing seems cramped especially from the still very under construction blue side. My gut is telling me the tree needs to go, for use in a different map, and a smaller, simpler top mid needs to replace it. 3- final issue is the bottom. bottom of the map is kind of lame in one direction and maybe passable-cool on the other. i have absolutely no idea what to do down there... but i really like how all the steps and landings on red side take you down there, as well as the yellow section. i haven't really done anything on top of the bases and main corridors yet so expect them to be pretty spartan. my thing is this: i think this map needs to become more than one map. but what i can't decided is- -first and foremost are the ideas on this map promising? can you see fun being had on this thing? -should this get stripped way down, go back to a 2v2? -should i scale up for 4v4 or are paths ok as they are for 4v4? -is this a map that needs to become 2 (map using tree asset and map using everything else...) or is this like 7 ideas in one that all need to be taken out on their own. So your main points in order: 1. Let me preface by saying that as is, the map could be 2v2 or 4v4. That being said, it's closer to a 2v2 so scale wise the corridors will be just fine. 2. I think your gut is right on this one. I deleted it to see what it would look like and already opened up possibilities for your next point. 3. Taking away the tree and replacing it with some natural cave structure would both simplify your top mid, as well as create options to make the bottom more exciting. As far as your worries about whether it will be fun or not, it's best to think about what you personally enjoy about maps. I for one love trick jumps so I try and tailor buildings or structures to not only look good, but serve a purpose. Other people enjoy the way pathways and halls intersect, or how line of sight will affect the tide of battle. Just keep trucking and doing what you love and over time you'll get the hang of how you enjoy creating Edit: P.S. I removed the Binary Rifle because it was too powerful. I then replaced it with a Overshield. I'm concerned about the Light Rifles on each base. Without much cover, I can easily shoot people across the map from Lookout. 2. Hows the terrain, cover and paths? Is it too open? Is there adequate cover? Do you think there is no incentive to leave the base? I'm concerned about camping. 3. Spawning (particularly in CTF). I'm concerned that people spawn too far away from the base and they can't stop the flag carrier. Speaking of CTF, do you think I should move the flags into the base? 4. Is this map aesthetically pleasing? lol. I'm constantly updating and polishing the map when I have time. Looking forward to your response. Kind regards, RoastingLamb
