Hey guys, I have been hosting competitive custom games most nights (at least 3 a week) and wanted to reach out to the community. This isn't a planned play group, just a pick up group when I am looking to play some competitive customs. We play slayer, ctf and strongholds (with a random breakout on occasion) on community made maps and will play some remakes as well. I have put together a list of some of my favorite maps from the community and tend to pick from there but I am always looking for some new great maps to feature. Just to restate in case something was unclear: we do NOT play minigames. If I was to give a time for when we generally play I'd say it is around around 10-2 am EST, though sometimes earlier, though if this time doesnt work for you read #2 below). I am posting this for two reasons: 1) to see if anyone is interested in joining up some nights. It can be hard or timely to find these types of games and with all the cool maps people have made it is a shame to not play them. You dont need a mic (though preferred) and i have met a bunch of cool people who play almost every night now. With people coming in and out of games there are always spots to be filled. 2) If you have a map that needs to be tested this can be a great time to test it. Side note: there is a group called Sweaty Hour and they are great at really diving into some high quality community maps into full detail by people that design maps themselves (I recommend them highly if you have the chance! These people are great at feedback and fun to play with). If you have a map you want some feed back on let me know and we will play it as long as it handles 4v4 or 2v2 (if we dont have the full team). If you can not attend we will still play your map and I will ask for what people think and get back to you about it. I personally like seeing new maps and being able to give people helpful feedback. While this group won't be professional map builders (unless they just so happen to be that night somehow) I have found the more people that play your map the better. My gamertag is Duke of Mearl if anyone has any question, maps they want the group to play, or have interest in playing.
Hey Mearl, I think we've been on the same team during Sweaty Hour a few times. Judging by the other thread, there's plenty of demand for nightly customs testing, so I'd love to help you out with this one when I'm around. It'd be really great to be able to accommodate the 2v2 lobbies that I'm sure will be kicking up as the Throwdown deadline gets closer, as well as 4v4's if there's interest.
Sniper, that sounds awesome. I'll let you know when I'm hosting one but keep your eye open for some maps!
Going to host a party tonight at 10pm Est. if you want to play or have a map you want us to play let me know
I've got a date, but I've checked out a couple maps that I'd like to see playtested. 4v4 Core - Infinity Gate (GT: Pat Sounds) 2v2 - Pavilion (GT: WeedCough) Both of those have WIP posts if people want to post. And if there's interest, I'm always looking for feedback on Avenue, which is Breakout. File is "Avenue 0.3.1" on my share.
Already had Infinity Gate on the list but I'll add Pavilion. Will also check your map out. Have a great date!
Just so any random passerby knows the first night went super smoothly. We had a full, mature, and communicative party the whole night and got to see some great maps. We were even lucky enough to sneak a peek at an upcoming remake that'll probably end up in matchmaking <3
Won't be joining, but I have a 2v2 that needs testing: http://www.forgehub.com/threads/wip-tetrad.150451/
Hey @Rabid Hogs we had a chance to test your map and overall we really liked it! Some suggestions that were made had to do with adding railings in some parts, as it looks like a path should be there but instead you plummet to your death. Also with the new H5 movement mechanics people tend to thrust alot, however battles on the pathways are too narrow to utilize this movement. Also more options through the middle can break up some of the room, path, room, path, room, path flow that people seem to go in. The map flow worked pretty well but I would want to test it more before delving into it further to see if camping a room could be a dominating strategy. If you have any questions let me know and keep up the good work!
