WIP Turbine

    Working title only. I am creating an asymmetrical map around a centerpiece with windmill style rotation that will jettison players upwards around the windmill path... It will use the same rotation techniques I have been working with on my Juicer and windmill maps (rotation examples done last week).

    Set on Parallax, I want to play off the space sky box, so I am also working to create a few new "floating" mechanics for platforms that allow them to wiggle in space unpredictably. This gives a more convincing "fluid gravity" to them and heightens the jump skill and focus required.

    Still in block out, but glad to share the mechanics of what I am doing as I get further along. I will post pics and a vid as soon as I am able.

    I am a bit confused about the windmill description, like how it will move players. A picture or video would be good, or even a paint diagram lol.

    The "floating" mechanics sounds great though. I was thinking of doing something like that, but I don't know how to go about it. What are you thinking of doing? Like scripting the pieces so they occasionally wobble a bit?

    Feel free to look at the latest version of my Turbine map (GT: Neo Hybodus). It is very much in a blockout / imagination stage. You will see the small circular platform in the upper middle 'wiggling' and the start of the turbine.

    The spinning turbine/windmill will rotate pretty fast... at a speed that will jettison the player away from it. I have yet to add the script but will tonight. To ensure the correct trajectory, I have placed walls and rings to make sure the correct path is followed. Some testing & refinement will be needed on these objects to get the right player experience, but it is pretty dramatic and fun in my previous tests...

    The floating platform is something I am going to continue to innovate on. I do have a version of it working now in a clever way. The platform is welded to another object that is hidden below the bottom of the map. The welded group has normal physics and one script to reset it's position slowly back to a position slightly upward. Once that script is done, normal gravity kicks back in and it falls downward, onto a series of soccer balls that provide a subtle random bouncing motion until the reset script triggers again. This could be exaggerated, but I wanted subtle. Looks pretty cool in practice. I have other ideas for something like this as well for other platforms I am going to add.

    Wow, and here I was just thinking of adding scripts that occasionally just do minor, quick tilts.

    That is a sweet way to do it. I don't want to directly steal it, but mind if I steal it? :)

    Also my confusion is mainly, is the turbine vertical or horizontal?

    Yeah my turbine is horizontal like a windmill, but it can be done vertically if you have a need for it. One test I did had a massive vertically spinning group. I cranked it up and then dropped down in front of it. It smacked me in the face and shot me all the way across Alpine. Should have saved a clip of that...

    Sure. Steal anything scripting ideas I have got. Just give me a shout out if you use them.

    Windmills are normally vertical, which is why I was confused lol.

    I will definitely give you a shoutout. What is the name of the working version of the Wobble mechanic?

    Pretty Sure it was Just "Turbine". Might have been named as Turbine Temp or v0.5 or something. It was 2 AM, so Turbine is what I am remembering...

    Ahhh good ol 2am forging. Personally I always felt that is when I got most of my creativity.

    You know those maps where you start off strong, then you look at it again a day or two later and you hate it? This was one of those maps. RIP, you map that never was...
