Alright guys. I made a list of fan-****ing-tastic original maps (for core competitive gametypes) that I've seen. This list is for January and earlier - my plan is to do a similar list every month, and get the most iconic maps every month consolidated into one list. Tell me what I'm missing. Readygo. Also: @darkprince909 finish Reliquary already. Geez. I was counting on it to be the poster image for the slideshow because it was the first H5 Forge map that wowed the piss out of me. @Zombievillan I need to play Ector with you a few times before you release it, because I want confirmation that it deserves to be on this list. @MartianMallCop I'm sure you've been around the customs lobbies of late. Anything really notable I've missed on this list? @GodlyPerfection does CF have any other non-Breakout maps at the moment that I should take a look at? Cheers all!
All that's left to set up is Strongholds. It'll be finished very, very soon. CF just had a little bit on our plate the last couple of weeks. A Turf remake is also nearing completion. Lots of other CF goodness is in the oven as we speak.
Sweet Debo thanks. I can definitely get you in on it, recent tests made me decide to make some changes to the weapon layout so it will be a bit different but not by much.
that one with the palm trees makes me soo happy <3333 If only we had real palm trees like the ones in warzone </3
Debo, could you check out my Map Polarity? It's still a WIP but I feel like it's really close. Just wondering if you think it's close to the standard that would put it on this list, and what improvements I could make to it. GT: Cam Jacobson, Map: Polarity 0.8.2 Thanks
I'd be happy to check it out next time I'm free to do so! I definitely didn't see your invite when you sent it, I must have been away from my Xbox. My bad.
Beyond has gotten some big changes since you've played it last. Give it a try with AR starts 5v5 Slayer, CTF, or Strongholds. I personally recommend strongholds.
Thanks man, I look forward to the feedback! edit: sorry for double post: had a bunch of formatting issues with original post
Checked it out just now. I think from a Forge quality standpoint your map certainly stands up there with the rest. However, from a design perspective the layout isn't particularly interesting or compelling. I would highly recommend watching some of the ForgeHub YouTube team's "Design Talk" videos, as well as reading things like the classic "Quake 3 Competitive Design Guide" to really get a conceptual feel for how to design interesting and competitive layouts. You very clearly have the chops to use the pieces at a high level - your coloration, choice of visuals, etc. were outstanding - but taking it to the next level design-wise is where you should be focusing your efforts. Good luck - I look forward to seeing more maps out of you in the future. Remember, every map you make makes you better. Keep at it and success will follow.
Awesome, thanks so much man. I've been hoping to find some good resources like these but didn't really know where to look. In regards to this map, do you think there's anything I could do to improve the design? There's not a ton of room to work with so I'm not expecting that much can be done at this point.
No problem! Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to change Polarity. It's not a bad map - in fact, it's pretty damn good for a first one. Tweak it to the point that you're happy with it, post it here if you feel like it, and move on to other designs. It's a great notch in your belt, and has hopefully been a good Forge learning experience. Keep at it and you'll eventually be a regular on these lists - there's just always that learning phase in the interim where a Forger makes average to above-average maps before reaching the "OMG" stage. Also - I've updated the slideshow with some additional maps; I took screenshots for the finished ones that didn't have pretty overviews on their ForgeHub threads as well. Hope you all like it!
