WIP: Shurima

    Here is a taste of what I have been working on Shurima 1.png shurima 2.png shurima 5.png shurima 6.png Shurima 7.png

    The map is called Shurima Beta 1 on my Fileshare, I plan to enter this for the 2v2 contest and was hoping for varied tests and opinions on the map. This was the prototype that xandrith took inspiration from, I was hoping to keep it a surprise until a later date but i thought I would show off this to show where Goldleaf got it"s color scheme from (and the dome of course).

    My GT is Xdemption for those who wish to see it.

    I got the dome from looking at a completely different map. You know, the one with the curved thrust jumps everywhere?

    yes that was the old layout that I scrapped and changed gears and made a different layout with the same theme

    I'm going to nit-pick, because I know you can handle it.
    • The map has a little bit more verticality than I expected from the pictures. I honestly think you could push the envelope just a little bit more in that regard.
    • Personal preference maybe...I don't like the windows behind Railgun (I'm still harboring ill will from my experiences with shield doors, and with the windows on Assembly). I think it would be better if the windows were removed and it was just open there, OR there were walls there instead so you couldn't see through. Maybe have the center window turn into a wall, and the outer two be opened up.
    • I'm not a fan of the weapon times. If you're going to have only 2 power weapons on the map, they need to spawn faster than 180 and 210 seconds. You may want to consider ditching the weapon pads so you can reduce the ammo count on the Railgun and have it spawn faster. OS can definitely spawn faster than 210 seconds. I also don't like the Storm Rifle spawning every 20 seconds. It's almost on par with the power weapons in this game.
    • Aesthetically it looks good. My only complaint in that area is that the flat terrain pieces used as part of the flooring behind Railgun look out of place. If they're going to stay there I would at least try to put a gold border around them.

    I do assume the name is taken over from the capital of the Shurima Desert? Just making sure.
    Whatever the case is, this looks, amazing. Worthy of the name Shurima. I have to check this out.

    This is definitely the best looking map I've seen yet. It looks friggin beautiful bro I'm so jealous right now. The only thing that would make me not jealous is if I win the powerball jackpot tonight.

    One thing I will say that aChunk didn't say is it looks a little small. I'm definitely going to run around on it to make sure but it just seems like a smaller layout from the pics.

    I agree with everything Chunk said except the Windows. This is a 2v2 & competitive at that so there's ways to push people in or out of a room with the right set ups. I think Assembly was a little different because here the distance between the Windows to the doorways is smaller. In assembly you really could only see through the window from the inside so 1 guy could crouch with the power weapon & wait for an unexpecting team to push through & get nailed. Here you can see anyone in there & the Railgun has to be charged so you have to work in the timing so I don't believe you should get rid of those wonderfully beautiful Windows that make me hate you so much.

    Gorgeous! The windows are incredible, don't get rid of them lol.
    Just out of curiosity though, why do you have invisible blockers on things like ledges and all the stairs?

    There are other windows aside from the ones I suggested removing. There would still be windows on the map.

    The invisible blockers on stairs are to assure that grenades bounce predictably/consistently.

    I thought some of the invisible blockers on railings were unnecessary. The ones on ledges are mostly to keep people from getting to places he doesn't want them to go. The only issue with this is that when you're first playing the map you'll expect to be able to clamber some ledges that you can't.

    you'll have to get rid of the windows because you can shoot through the clear glass. unless there's a way to block it that i don't know about.
