So I had a map idea, and I want some thoughts on it before I start building it. Basically it's a floating asymmetric map (lockout, guardian), and there is a circular top mid akin to guardian. Now with the use of scripting, center flooring would slowly start pulling out to the outer ring of top mid. Make sense? So at the start of the game you have a full guardian esque top mid, but by about halfway through the game it's just a solid ring that has a large hole to drop down to bottom mid. I think it'd make for some interesting gameplay and change up flow midway through. Would that be kind of cool? Would it be feesible with scripting?
It's absolutely possible. Assuming I'm thinking about this right it would be possible using a round timer and an array of move offset commands. Personally I think I'd be cool to see the hole both open and close during the game, but that's just me.
Yeah I was thinking that too, but I was not sure if scripting could achieve that as I know very little about scripting. If you think that would work, I will definitely do that. Let me draw something up real quick and I will post it.
I'm currently attempting to create a chinese themed map. I have sort of a layout in mind, but this is just experimenting with aesthetics.
Not sure if you saw my reply to your earlier posting of your map but it still looks very cramped in some places. Those rocky hallways and caves will turn into melee fests and see very little traditional game play, which I assume you don't want. Maybe let it breathe a little.
Yeah it's true and the melee fests are a possibility. I'll have to test it out. But I think that the light bridge in the centre will be the key to win. It's almost impossible to survive in the narrow rocky passages, the map has a lot of verticality (and high skill jumps) and every of the passages (except the icy cave) is visible from the top. Plus there are the grenades. I think it will play well with the Halo 5 mobility. Anyway thanks for your feedback, it's really much appreciated!
Speaking of power weapons, the more i run around Genesis, the more i think it needs Rockets and 2 sniper rifles. Or perhaps one Sniper and an extra power up. I can see a game against sweaty teams coming down to who camps the base side of the map the best. That's not to say that it's easy to camp (or that there is anything inherently wrong with that strat). But those areas are pretty segmented, if not slightly swiss cheesy and i'm wondering how I would push players more into the middle. All of the paths lead that way, but rushing mid isn't exactly the way good players play.
I'd like to help test it when you're ready. Aesthetically it looks great, I'm a huge sucker for anything that gives me a Halo: CE nostalgia boner lol. I had thought about doing the same things with those blue lights but you beat me to it lol.
Do you have a thread where I can quickly access the most recent overview drawing or walkthrough so I can make an informed comment?
Sure, thank you a lot! I think that Two Betrayals has an unmatchable atmosphere, especially during the "Final Run". Indeed the final name of the map will be Endrun, as tribute.
I've actually been trying to build a map around the chinese architecture for a very long time. Although since I'm very limited in time this will most likely never happen.. This actually looks really cool and am very interested in seeing the development of this. I would recommend checking out Shangri La of UT3 for some inspiration if you need it!
Just got picked up by optic gaming as there in house forger. Will be moving into the optic house in Schaumburg by the end of the month along with my YouTube channel optic salty going live. Expect big things boys
I get so distracted making maps. I start one, then move on to something new. Damn I need to finish stuff!
A map I started on about three weeks ago. Inspiration from the AVATAR movie and mountains in CHINA. The core of the map is played on two floating islands, with several floating islands surrounding the area for aesthetics. EDIT: not sure why the image is so small. Oh well.
Alright, update time. That last picture is a nice representation of the layout. The Middle, between the two larger buildings will become a zen garden of sorts. The top left will be a transition area with a large closed gate. The bottom right will hopefully become a mini great wall of china going from cliffside to cliffside. I know its hard to tell, but almost every level will be accessible. chinese prisoner.
