no god anywhere submitted a new map: CONTRACT - Construct Replica - A nearly perfect remake of the classic halo 3 map construct. Built with replication in mind, this map holds onto every shape aspect of the original with a refreshing new color scheme. Read more about this map...
Very good scaling. You basically got it all right minus a few things like the ledge on open ramp behind the glass. And there was a wall you could bank nades off on back gold to hit top gold. But besides those things it's crazy good.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm happy you like the map. It's been so long since I played games on the original that I forgot you could do that. I will adjust this on my next update. I'm not sure what you mean about the open ramp ledge though. I do plan to add fusion coils to that wall though. I just ran out of time before traveling so I slapped some accents on instead.
As a lover of Construct, (literally one of my favorite Halo maps) I gotta say I am sooo happy to see such a faithful recreation. I've watched the fly through and am super stoked to download this in the near future. Though minor, here are a few changes I would make if it were my own. (or when I download it) -- A white base on a snow level doesn't properly take advantage of the impact of contrast. Maybe try a couple subtle color tone adjustments. -The one texture color approach really needs some subtle lighting hue's to create more ambiance. -The floor texture/color blends to much with everything else. -The new forge offers you the opportunity to build the cool window within the floor of the lowest level, and possibly something neat under it. Go for it. -The funky lighting effect that you have used in many places I strait up don't like and isn't needed. The map stands on it's own. -Not sure sparks are necessary in the purple lifts. Try a little more purple light with the lighting fog effect turned up a bit. Not really to create fog but to create a soft glow. -Though interesting I don't know if I care to much for the purple shielded glass pillars on the center walkway. They probably draw unnecessary resources that could better be used on lighting somewhere else. Anyway, that was a few quick thoughts/suggestions based one what I saw in the vid. Great work!! and Thank You. I'm too damn lazy to take on the challenge of remaking that map.
Map looks great... I'm new to the site so can anyone tell me how to actually download the map to my xbox? Having a bit of a struggle!
- Add the forger as a friend on XBOX (GT = no god anywhere) - View your roster in Halo 5 and locate no god anywhere - Press A. Go down to map variants and press A again. - There are 2 sections, Bookmarks and Files. Find the one that has CONTRACT in it and press A again. - Use the D-Pad to move to the map CONTRACT. Press in on your left control stick to bookmark the map. It should then be available in your bookmarks.
So, my thought process as far as color schemes and lighting goes: I very much dislike adding and seeing colored lighting on maps as imo it causes detachment from the natural feel of a structure, it's gameplay, and the skybox. Having soft white light rays, and dusty glows tie in really well with this landscape and sky box. I'd like the map to feel as if it's one large structure rather than being built by whatever color lego came out of the box next. In theory the structure is lit by the sun, rather than a bunch of lights. I want the structure to be the landscape, rather than a structure within the landscape. Also, it seems to me the lighting we have really isn't good at brightening a room without creating strong reflections and glows on one piece rather than all of them evenly. With this being said, having my blocks set to anything darker pushes the brightness of the map to a point where it's too dark for visible gameplay. The black pieces were changed to drop my lightmap down tremendously and to balance the jarring amount of white pieces. I will adjust wall vs floor colors though as I agree and actually wanted to do this before posting it. As far as the light effect, it's my guilty pleasure and does a really good job at making the map less boring without colored lights and a plain 3 color scheme everywhere you go. It's also imo a cool way of making the lifts stand out without colored lights and adds a theme, somewhat. Same with the sparks, they're just too cool. I actually had all glass on the map the same purple as the middle struts but somehow let them slip by when I changed it, I'll reassess that. As far as the window floor at bottom, I barely got my lightmap to 100 so it's not really possible. I'd love to though. --- Double Post Merged, Dec 26, 2015 --- Touché. I'll change this for you. Mind you guys, I can't forge for another week until I'm back from a holiday trip. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I consider and appreciate it all.
@no god anywhere Ya, I am aware of how awful it can get with lighting, that's why every comment about changes were about subtlety. The only place where I would embellish a bit is within the purple lift. It gives the lift more feeling of density, like your are standing next to a tremendous object shuttling energy stream. With our ability to change objects and colors by shades, we now have the opportunity to make subtle changes that can really make a difference when seen as a whole. I understand you want to merge with the environment more but white on white on white can be a bit overwhelming. Then again this is your map and you sure as hell don't have to answer to anyone. Thanks again. I may go all mad scientist on this once I give it a download.
This really is a beautifully made map. My biggest qualm (and it is a personal thing) is that I just don't like the data stream gobo for the white lights. It just seems a bit inconsistent, or something.
Really loving this remake man, downloaded it and made a few changes here and there (added lighting, took some off, open ramp ledge, skybox switch), you seriously did a great job on it. Best Construct remake ive ever seen. The screenshots dont do it justice, the lighting looks "warmer" in game. http://imgur.com/a/T8Smp
