I'm jealous... ;_; --- Double Post Merged, Dec 18, 2015 --- Well, when you do get into a lobby, if you haven't already, just be conscious of the overextended lines of sight. Enemies equipped with Battle rifles, and the "Sentinel" modification will bully you HARD.
Yea I call bull on those stats at that point in time Halo 5 was doing worse than Battlefront as most played and it had around 50k+ players. So these stats are iffy and just a statement unless proven otherwise. By that I mean they did way worse... Unless this is going off of how many games per player.
What's the point of comparing a peak population number with the amount of people that played one match in varying playlists over the weekend?
Why do we even care about the overall population? As long as we are a tight knit community the game will still be fun for us.
Because this is the worst population since Halo 4 and by fun what do you mean? Customs/Forge? Just asking
Forge and customs. I understand the population may not be topping the charts, but as long as I get into matchmaking games decently fast, and can get custom lobbies started I could care less about the actual numbers. My main concern is receiving game types. They fuel customs, and customs are what makes a Halo game. @Overdoziz I highly doubt matchmaking will fall so low as to not get games. Just because it isn't in the top ten doesn't mean it's dead. Besides, worrying about the population does us nothing. 343 releasing more content helps bring in players, constantly reminding people the game isn't the strongest Halo game only pushes people further away from the franchise.
I honestly think something not mentioned in this thread (unless I've missed it) and close to my heart is the role of the competitive side. I think 343 know this and that's why they not only focused on making a game with single default weapons starts that's still highly competitive, but also why they're pouring money in to the HCS/HWC. I think there's a lot to be said for community being what keeps a game stable over its lifespan, rather than just the month or two after release, but it isn't just about creative content in game. Being a respected eSport can do a ton for helping a game stay relevant years after its release, and honestly I think there's promise there. Look at the orgs who are now getting in to Halo, and how at least Optic (if not too many others) are riding the YouTube train with Halo as well as CoD. Also Warzone, whilst not my favourite bit of the game, is potentially a big deal. The money people are actually spending on REQs is kind of astounding. Giving people a compulsive experience like that is a good way to keep them playing. Tbh my main gripe is, as with many others, the lack of maps. But not just numbers, remixes too. Eden is just a worse Empire imo, Regret is more different from Truth but still doesn't offer something super compelling in comparison. Overgrowth isn't my favorite map though at least it's more significantly different from Plaza in terms of overall gameplay, but the areas themselves (plaza/cafe in particular) are still very similar which results in similar gameplay within those areas. I think they need to ease up on those remixes and work on putting out more unique maps. I also agree with others that community files/forge would have been a lot better off if it'd been there from the start. I just hope the game hasn't lost too much momentum for these various community aspects to do any good.
It's not just about getting matches at all. It's about the speed at which you'll connect to those matches, the latency you'll have and the skill match-up. All off these things suffer with a lower population. Matchmaking isn't made to work well with low population numbers, especially not one that heavily focuses on a ranking system. I'd be more comfortable with Halo's numbers if it had a server browser, but we all know that isn't happening any time soon.
Another thing as well ive seen in all these gameplay videos. It blows my mind you guys play with radar. 343 isint funding your custom games with prize money.
Radar is in matchmaking, so if you want a map online you're going to end up playing default settings at some point.
By that logic we should have went full derp in Reach/3 with AR starts in customs. I just find it a bit counter productive where we have a creative tool like forge to create our own experience, but the actual gametype settings have to be default despite a much superior option being a simple switch away. 343s 18m radar is hated by people who like radar, and those who like no radar.
Is anyone consistently running Spartan ability free, 4-shot magnum customs? If so where can I snag those settings?
Id be all over that **** if I had time to game. It'l be a regular thing soon once I get my hands on that.
I know them feels I come here as a pretty inexperienced forger looking for inspiration and to see what people better than me are making, usually its just a bunch of arguments sometimes semi interesting debates about design but most of the time it just seems like unnecessary bickering.
Im sure the better forgers will be more than happy to help you if you come onto the forum and make sweeping statements about the whole community based off a few threads. And even then, people seem to like to view debates over mechanics such as radar as "bickering" to suit their narrative.
I've been lurking around this community since h3 I've seen a fair amount of pointless arguments and drama, of course anything to do with the games mechanics isn't bickering but there is plenty that is.
