(IGNORE THE 8TH OPTION) Greetings, everyone! As the "Cartographer's Gift" update draws near, I wanted to gauge the community in asking, "what will you be creating when Forge is released?" The seven options will cover the key aspects of current, and previous iterations that bolstered the Halo series, and its community. From capture the flag to infection, and aesthetic pieces to free for all, will be included in the poll questions. Personally, this is going to be an exciting venture. With promised annual support for Halo 5: Guardians, and the restoration of a file share/ browser and a polished theater mode, this installment of the Halo franchise can be a worthwhile experience! Lastly, if you tick one, or more of the responses: will it be a remake or an original design? Be sure to post your comment!
And now, if only 343 Industries could return to the Master Chief Collection, and finish what they started, after the December update...
I plan to forge competitive maps to the best of my ability. I'm sure most will be inspired by older halo maps in one way or another. As I've said in WAYWO, my first map is going to be a Chill Out inspired map focusing on learning how the new forge works and what works aesthetically.
Boring 2 base CTF map, to learn forge. Details subject to change: Bases on both ends. A warthog at each base A Sniper at each Base A Rocket in the center. At least one Cave/Tunnel A Cannon to give players a shortcut along the vehicle circuit from each base. Bridge diagonal across center. Figure-8-ish shape. Scripted base doors? Scripted Aesthetics Also I have a vague idea for a map with a spinning outside.
Aesthetic maps are just about all I do. I plan on remaking the Star Destroyer I made in Reach, only this time around I'm not even going to bother making it playable; I'll instead focus on making it as detailed as possible.
My Baltis Causeway map, as I have never properly released it, even though I've had many matches on it. I'm hoping the new Forge will let me build it and load it out in a way that I may finally be satisfied with. The problem now is all the bloody changes to game movement, weapons and power ups since Halo Reach. It is a pretty basic and classically styled map so it should carry over with little trouble.
Hoping for a nice of 4v4 Slayer/Objective maps with good clean flow, expansive BTB/SquadTB and some infection of all strains (pun intended). Might look at making a branching story based warfare series with win conditions. Would be very complex and I would welcome any help with making maps (collabs or alone), feedback and ideas. Ill get a thread made up later. Tablet keyboard sucks and Im meant to be learning in my lectures haha.
couple of btb maps influnce dby titanfall map design. CS: Dust for breakout and who knows from there. Also going to try to redo Destiny's Control gametype and see how it play's with Halo's sandbox
Something mind-bendingly trippy, hopefully - Scripting don't fail me now! Also puzzle maps, and maybe I'll take a stab at some mini game ideas too.
I'm first going to remake Amplified, the foundry forge map from Halo 3. Then I'm making Clan bases. Fun ^^
Hmm control would be interesting to replicate. Shame theres no points multiplier system in the options (as far as im aware). In a base sense its strongholds but you score on [kills x number of zones held] rather than [majority points held]. It would make the flow my dynamic in terms of movement. You capture and then hunt rather than defend points.
there is a slight bonus to score for capping points but honestly it seems like a good competitive mode that empowers team play while encouraging the skill of the individual. (Unfortunately destiny's unbalanced starts ruin the mode.) Hopefully, there will be some kind of imporvement to the customs in the new update. Thinking about it, maybe scripting to slayer with stronghold points (if capped, modify kill score) and maintining the base gametype as slayer.
With all the other games that have modes like Control I'm suprised it hasnt been in before now. It fits with the whole 'Team player yet individually skilled' mentality that halo has. And agreed. Heres hoping 343 realise their mistake with "losing" gametypes and the customs options before its too late and the alienate the forge community.
