Goodness, this thread has really blown up in the last couple of weeks.

How are things going in the H2A Forge community?

Your first sentence answers your second

Edit: to make this post relevant, I have been forging a lot. Since my last map preview I finsihed a 4v4 that draws heavy inspiration from The Pit and started forging an original asymm I have been working on the design of since before I quit forging at the end of Reach!

There are a couple handfuls of people that are still really active. Definitely not an outpouring of forge content right now though. It's pretty similar to the end of Halo 4.

I should post my progress on projects more often. I'm just hesitant to post much during development because I use a lot of placeholder pieces, and my maps usually end up looking much different by the time they're completed.

Yeah, it sucks to see the forge eras end so quickly (or in H2A's case, not even spark with this piss of a launch); this game has been out for less than a year.

And personally, I never thought I would see myself drift so far from the forge scene. I just hadn't had it in me to get on my xbox one. The only thing that is keeping me from selling it is my laziness to sell it and my curiosity for Halo 5.

Anyhow, the two maps I saw on the top of the page (PRS's and Chunks) both look sick

Made some unexpected changes to Boarding Pass. Added an irremovable turret here (The turret is behind the sandbags. It just didn't spawn when I was taking the picture because I used the wrong gametype). This area has always been neglected even in the map's version in Halo 4. The turret has given it more activity and makes it a very decent holdout location.

There is also a route now from the bathroom to the sweat turret to give the Infected more options in attacking.

Infected can jump through this window now. This allows them to get close to the turret without being damaged by it.

One of the holdout locations in the map has been strengthened by having a movable crate block one of the entrances.

Very happy with these changes I made. Still haven't tested it though.

No specific new information is revealed, but this interview with Tim Longo contains some interesting discussion about the untapped potential of Forge.

I know we've been accustomed to obtaining OverShield by holding "X" before (Halo 4) and I understand some of the situational advantages of that, however I much prefer the old system where you can just run into the object to pick it up. The ability to float this object allows us, as designers, to present player movement incentives. I always loved floating the OS between platforms where players would need to jump to obtain it. I've seen the OS placed mid way through a drop down in the past as well. Am I the only one that wants a more traditional OS system?

I honestly don't mind as long as there is an option to have traditional pickup. Maybe a custom setting or a different powerup in Forge? There could be an "Overshield Traditional" and an "Overshield Pickup"

My thoughts as well. If we had the option to have both at our disposal that would be best. Forgers used to use the auto pickup for custom power ups for infection game types as well. This spreads further than just typical game modes.

Having an animation which briefly takes you out of the action to pick up a powerup is absurd. 343 is really letting design take a backseat to so-called immersion and letting their art team and animators run the show. There are so many little animations in H5 which take control away from the player and interrupt gameplay. The sad thing is that taknig control out of the player's hands temporarily actually breaks immersion anyway. It completely defeats the purpose of what they're trying to do. I wouldn't expect to see options to disable this nonsense either.

I understand that you and other's aren't excited for this game, but on every post about halo five all I'm reading is that your not happy with aspects of the game. The other day you talked about bring new aspects in halo that are original and not copied from other games and this new power up system is new and not just copied from other games.
I also want to mention that in order to pick it up you have activate it on like a small screen and this legit takes half a second. Yes i agree that it takes you out of the action, but is really half a second a big deal for the benefits that a power up provides.
I fully agree that halo has changed, and that is clearly evident but I feel like you and other people in the community arn't giving the game a fair go and i feel your scared of change. Like I mentioned the other day, the game changes its base mechanics because the developers want to appeal to a wide audience and this is done to make money. Just putting it out there, Halo reach (started) evolving away from the true arena style that was in halo 2 and 3 and I heavily believe that if Bungie was still working on halo, it would be addapting and changing halo to bring in the widest audience possible.

ultimately, I applaud 343 for having a separate unique design , and they haven't just simply ported halo over and kept the same design and look aspects of the Bungies halo games. They want to be unique and change halo but still keep arena styled gameplay at its heat which is what they are doing in halo 5. I just feel as if people are just simply scared of change and struggle to adapt.
