In leiu of all the current discusion on the HSC: Map Canidates page, whether negative or positive. I decided to create this thread as a means of reaching out to 343i and letting them know what I feel we as a players, forgers and matchmakers desire for a better, more productive MM Forge Map selection process. Phase 1 (Announcement and Map Submissons) - A main announcement for (Blank) type of map. This announcment would be made on 343i fourms, and be reposted on forgehub and teambeyond. - Submissons for the completed maps would be submitted by forgers to 343i . After a set submisson time frame, (possibly 2 to 8 weeks) all the submissons would be judged by the community cartographers. They would than select a number of quailty maps in proportion to the number of maps submitted. Than these cc slected maps ( Lets say 15-20) would be sent to 34i internal testing and made MM ready. Phase 2 (New "Forge Map Testing Playlist" and Public MM Community Voting/Feedback) - -343i launches a new playlist that features the 10-20 preslected maps and creates a feedback thread that correlates to each map. In each respective thread actual MM players could leave +/-footage forgers could read and use to improve there map. This Playlist would last 6 weeks and at the end of each week, forgers would be allowed to update and refine there maps. Week 1. v1.o, week 2 v1.1, week 3 v1.2, etc.... Once the last and final week is over the latest versions of each map would be voted on by the community. The results would be made public and 343i/HCS could than select maps from this playlist based on public voting, feedback and other factors. Phase 3 (Offical MM or HCS use) -After the Testing, Feedback and voting is done, the popular maps could be used by 343i for Standard HCS Annivesary playlists and/or be added to the Offical HCS Map Rotation and HCS Playlist for New Seasons. ______________________________________________________________________________ What does the community think?
This would be really cool. Though I wouldn't trust matchmaking kids to choose a map. That's the only real flaw that I can see.
Ultimately it wouldn't be the MM players making the final choice, there feedback would just be highly considered when selecting a map.
True. Either way, I would be all for it. I simply just don't think the majority of matchmaking players are capable of relying any useful feedback. For example the community feedback program for halo resulting in a huge majority wanting to keep sprint. Now that's ridiculous. Haha. Not at all trying to spark any opinionated debates by adding this, I just would have never guessed in a million years that the odds would weigh out like that. You can tell that the higher percentage of players in matchmaking players have no idea what is good for a tournament environment like this. On another note, I'm sure all the maps in the first place would be really well crafted maps just as the picks were this time around and I would love to see a handful of really good competitive maps get put into a playlist to get tested by outsiders. I'd even play the playlist.
This would be greaterino, but like I said in our party, I doubt that 343 cares enough to make this happen.
I fully support this because a lot of feedback was driven without any testing on the maps for Season 2. This would be more structured, as the map pool would be available to play and test in an appropriate time frame. Players were complaining that it was difficult to obtain maps going into Season2. Having Season 3 maps available to play in a playlist would be the easiest solution to deliver the content for testing since we don't have a fileshare system. could monitor voting on the map selections in this playlist to collect data as well.
This is what always should have been done. Remember that one Bungie day where there were tons of forge maps in a single playlist? That was amazing! But instead of one day, have it up for several weeks. 343 Kinda did this in Halo 4, but the maps weren't very good. Overall, I'd say fantastic idea for Halo 5. MCC could do it, but once Halo 5 comes out people wont care as much.
I assumed they learned their mistake and will let you choose the maps that should be put into more rigorous testing. Hopefully, anyway.
I hope this will trigger some changes for future seasons... I don't really have much to say about your proposal Salty. A system like that is pretty logical, and should've already been in place. It's too late to do this for H2A, as this is already the final season using the game before they move on to Halo 5. I'm not sure they'll even be looking for forge maps in Halo 5, since I'm sure they'll be pushing their own maps. If they ever recognize a need for forge content, I hope they'll consider something similar to what you've suggested.
The only problem I have with this system is that time limit of 2-8 weeks to build/test/refine maps, as it limits the selection to ONLY maps created during this time frame. Its illogical to rule out older maps which may be of higher quality and better fitting for HCS.
I think this idea shoots for the moon, and I like that. But your playlist structure seems very optimistic. I don't see 343 updating the playlist with new map versions weekly. Nor do I like community voting if the point is picking HCS a maps, but for general MM maps I don't see a problem. The main thing that 343 needs to do is lay out exactly what they are looking for in advance--like months in advance. This in itself would be a major step forward. @SecretSchnitzel I don't think the idea limits it to maps created within a time span. It simply leaves the option to create new maps by giving one.
If it doesn't limit to only maps created in that time span, great! It better not place higher emphasis on those either... On the contrary, I still hold that older maps, as they are more refined, should hold precedence. But, again, that's my self favoring bias (although one that is also logical), as my maps tend to be the same designs I've been hashing out and refining since Reach.
